Unlocked a pair of time gates off screen, namely the Bangor Dome 2300AD and Guardia Forest 1000AD gates.
The team begins by taking the gate in the middle on the top row to go to 1000AD Medina Village. They come out in the home of a pair of imps who, unlike the ones we've seen up to this point, are remarkably friendly as they try to exit.
The two imps mention that the Medina region was founded by ancestors of the Mystics who don't hold humans in too high of a regard. Long story short, it manifests itself if you check out the inn or shop. Both of the owners tell you to take a hike. Upon refusing to leave, you'll have to beat said owner and some guards up.
What do you get for all that beating up? Stuff that's been given one hell of a price gouging ritual. Granted, 200G for an inn rest isn't the worst, but the shop with gear that greatly outshines what you have currently? Price gouging that changes randomly if you exit and re-enter the shop.
As if that wasn't wacky enough, there's a town square in the middle, complete with various monsters chanting around a statue of the enigmatic Magus we've heard about. Some of the monsters even mention that Magus is the one who summoned Lavos in 600AD.
As for items to collect, there's a pair of Soda Tabs in the elder's house (one of which I forgot to grab, will get that soon) and a Mid Ether in the Forest Ruins north of town. Take note of the large blue pyramid at the ruins. It's another one of those things that can't be dealt with until much later.
If you go southwest of town, you'll end up at the hut of Melchior, the weapons merchant we saw back at the fair. He mentions that there's a way to get back to the Truce region in the cave to the north. Perfect for us!
Melchior also has a shop with some new gear in stock that doesn't cost 65k gold across the board. There's the simple magic boosting Red Katana, power boosting Hammer Arm if you somehow forgot the one in the Factory, and new anti-enemy equipment in the Mystic Bow & Gun. The gun inflicts the lock status on magic type enemies while the bow does 2x damage to said magic types.
When you're all prepared, head north to enter Heckran Cave and blow up the two Grumps guarding the entrance.
The theme of the enemies here equate to massive physical defense. Robo is one of your best picks if he's got Laser Spin unlocked due to its AoE nature. Anything that doesn't collapse instantly isn't surviving a follow up Fire/Ice/Lightning most of the time.
First room is pretty linear with an Ether in a chest along the way.
In the second room, keep going south to find another room with a chest at the end containing a Magic Scarf (accessory that raises magic by 2). Head back to the second room and move west to a Mid Ether, then north to an Ether. The exit to the south of that is a linear waltz to the save point (with another of those sealed chests on the way).
At the save point, Lucca takes Robo's spot since she's going to be a bit more effective for the boss of this area, the beast this cave is named after.
Heckran's a very water oriented boss at first, blowing bubbles at a target for around 75-80 damage or using Cyclone on a target for a bit more damage. He can also do a bunch of melee swipes at a target for damage on par with his bubbles, maybe a pinch weaker.
The main gimmick revolves around him going into a defensive stance. Any damage it take during this phase will cause a water wave counter that hits everyone for 80--100. Just need to wait until he takes a brief counter break to resume the offense.
Speaking of offense, Heckran's got very high physical defense so magic's the way it needs to be done. Damage you party takes is easily remedied with a Mid Tonic or, in the water wave's case, Crono & Marle double tech Aura Whirl
After the fight, Heckran expires, but not before spilling the beans about Magus being the one to bring forth Lavos 400 years ago. Looks like we've got a new target to go after in the middle ages!
Before that happens, the pool behind Heckran is a portal that deposits you right outside Lucca's home. If you go into it, talk to Lara (Lucca's mom), then talk to Taban downstairs, he starts making gear that Lucca can use...as well as the rest of the party!
Lucca's pickup is the Taban Vest, an excellent armor that raises speed by 2 and halves fire damage. The item for the team is a new weapon, the Flame Arrow which is effective on undead enemy types.
