Chrono Trigger: Enhansa Edition is a hack by inuksuk that rebalances things such as characters, equipment, techs, and so on to provide a harder challenge overall.

To get the patch, you'll need to join the NGPlus discord. A link to join it is located here:

Not much to mention so let's take that western "save point" as it's actually a warp leading to the final run leading up to Magus.

Upon entering the room at the end of the stairway, you hear some chanting. Clearly we've arrived right when Magus is about to summon Lavos so the time's right to end this once and for all!

Magus actually is a credible threat for a boss figure. He takes heavily reduced physical damage to start with, forcing you to use elementally attuned techs to do any real damage. Frog attacking with his Masamune does trigger a magic defense debuff on Magus, but it's hardly a necessity.

If Magus isn't hit with the Masamune? He swaps his elemental weaknesses around, becoming immune to or absorbing all elements except for whichever one he casts on your party. The only non AoE move is shadow aligned, hitting a target for 130-150 damage. The others can hit for 100-130+ damage which isn't anything to write off.

Besides the counters, he has two moves when his actual turn comes around. First is Geyser which hits everyone for light damage while slowly draining away the team's hp. The other is just a regular physical strike on a target. Barely stronger than Geyser, but he does telegraph who he's gonna hit by facing them after his Geyser turn.

Strategy here is simple enough. With Crono & Frog covering two elements in lightning & water respectively, bringing a third element into the mix is ideal, hence why I have Robo providing shadow damage via Laser Spin. He's also learnt his quite useful Heal Beam tech to heal the party. Between that and Frog's heal, patching the team up after taking a couple counter spells is easy.

There's one last thing to watch out for...after doing enough damage, Magus seems to give up his countering ways as indicated by him risking a spell cast. It seems like he buffs himself, but in reality it means regular physicals are back on the table if you so choose.

The problem? You had best have everyone at full health because on Magus's next turn, he launches his strongest attack, Dark Matter. This hits everyone for a rather massive 300-350 damage. Magus then loops back to his spell risk taking on his next turn to charge up another Dark Matter. Make sure to get everyone healed up since you'll probably have to live through at least two Dark Matters (maybe one if you use some strong dual techs?) before the fight's finished.

After the fight, a large scale energy signature is detected. Magus seems to panic, stating he doesn't want Lavos to wake up...then drops the bombshell. He isn't the creator of Lavos. Rather, he merely "summoned" him, mentioning that Lavos is burrowed deep in the earth, absorbing energy and growing ever stronger. Right after that remark, a giant gate opens up and swallows everyone in the room. Maybe we'll be sent to a brand new era, who knows.

More next time!
