Turns out getting sucked into a giant gate of sorts makes you wake up in the twilight zone as Marle decides to wake up Crono instead of his mother like in the intro cutscene. That gets quickly thrown out the window when the scene fades out, then returns back to Ayla's hut in 65m BC. Ayla found everyone at the Mystic Mountains all injured and brought them back to her hut, cementing just how much of a strong leader-like persona she exhibits.
As for Magus? Well, that's the one person she didn't see there. Likely got vaulted to a different era, but the one nagging question still remains...if Magus didn't create Lavos, then when exactly was the monster born? Either it was born in this era or there's one more era out there we haven't uncovered.
After the team gets some rest, they awaken to Kino telling them Ayla's gone off to look for Laruba Village to forge an alliance for dealing with the Reptite clan. Problem? Someone rushes in to state the north wood's burning and he takes off.
Before heading north to follow suit, check out the trader's hut. All those various drops from the Hunting Range? He's got brand new weapons up for trading. Crono still doesn't get any special effects on his tradable weapon, the Aeon Blade. It does have a rather sizeable boost in power over the Slasher though.
The other weapons are all quite good. Robo's Dream Hand boosts his magic defense by 5 while the Dream Bow & Gun have some very interesting effects. The gun halves a target's hp (assuming they're not immune) while the bow has a rather massive damage variance attached to it. You could hit for low double digits or crit for 1000+ damage on low defense targets.
Northwest of Ioka Village is Laruba...Ruins. Not a village, oh dear.
Turns out the place got ransacked something fierce with Kino and some others being captured in the chaos. It sure doesn't help Ayla's case at first when one of the locals, presumably the leader of the village, chastises Ayla for bringing the Reptites to the village in her search. She does seem a bit down, but that doesn't last long as she vows to kick some Reptite tail and rescue everyone. She only requires a dactyl to reach the Reptite's base, something she will find in the Dactyl Nest just a bit to the east as she runs off.
Before following her, I brought Robo & Lucca to the front, gave them both Dream Guns, then gave them both Berserker accessories. Let's see who gets the most high damage rolls shall we?
The Dactyl Nest has a few new enemies around. Nothing really threatening besides Avian Rexs being extremely fast, usually getting the first attack in battle unless Crono has a Speed Belt on and attacks right away. Small area as well with a few chests littered about, one of which has a Meso Mail inside.
When you reach the end, you'll find Ayla just as she's summoning a dactyl to ride in. The common player though might be more interested in that red sparkle in the sky.
In any case, the team catches up to Ayla and offers to help her out as thanks for all the assistance she's provided us thus far. She welcomes the help and summons two more dactyls for a full squad, then you get a chance to reform your party with Ayla required to take a slot alongside Crono.
The Reptite's lair is located southeast of the Dactyl Nest, perched on top of a rock with lots of lava surrounding it.
After the save at the gates, there's a timeskip back to Spekkio's room to show off his response to Ayla as well as getting the girl's first two stat upgrade from Nu Toma.
Ayla's stat boost choices are unique like Robo's are. She can opt for a physically slanted (+3 power, +5 stamina, +3 evade) or a more magically tanky (+3 magic defense, +20 hp, +4 mp). I give her both stat upgrade for her physical stats so she can wail on things something fierce.
More next time!
