It's about time to go knock on Magus's doorstep.

First thing's first...I did forget to mention some rather important gear that Taban has freshly crafted for us post-Masamune reforging. For Lucca, she gets the Taban Helm. Good defense reinforced by a +10 boost to magic defense. Lucca tends to trend quite high on magic defense if you go her Scientist route for stat boosts so that combined with this helm makes her very capable of soaking up magic hits others would get smashed by.

The other reward is a new armor that only Robo can equip, the Blast Guard. Exactly the same as the Ruby Vest in terms of defense and the 50% fire resistance, but with one big improvement...+1 speed which Robo gladly will take.

That being said, the Magic Cave leading to Magus's abode is only one screen with only one minor annoying enemy in the Vamp due to an attack that inflicts sleep. There's yet another one of those sealed treasure chests in here too.

Eventually, you'll arrive at Magus's sprawling castle. It's way too quiet at first with some random NPCs around.

Once you've chatted it up with everyone in both wings, return to the main hall to find a save point has shown up. Make sure you're fully healed because touching the save point causes 'ol Ozzie to show up, exchange a few words with Frog, then decide to awaken the castle's sleeping monsters for you to fight.

The welcoming party is a pair of Vamps and four Henchs. The latter don't really do much damage, but they are apt to counter with Crimson Rain for light damage and a hp sap effect.

Now, those two hallways you went down? You get to go down them again, but this time the dead ends at the end of both hallways now have something important...a couple of Magus's cronies not named Ozzie!

Starting off in the west wing after turning some skeletons to dust is, as Frog so eloquently puts it, Sir Slush, aka Slash. He's about to be in for a world of pain...and no, Frog will not be the one doing that because he's going to be a healbot for Crono & X, both of whom have Berserker accessories on.

Slash starts trying to punch people. The damage is barely better than what the Henchs were dishing out. He also doesn't have much health, especially when a berserk X using the Mystic Bow can crit for over 700 damage.

After finishing off Slash, you can probably surmise he wasn't using his full power when he does the sole party wide attack he has, then decides to claim that katana sitting over his throne for phase 2 of the fight.

In the second phase, Slash has a bit more physical defense, meaning X's brutal crits are "only" doing a little over 600 damage. True to his name, Slash now gets to use the move named after him.

His other attacks are both single target, consisting of a jumping slash Spincut style or a multi hit move. Both can do over 100 damage if they strike a non-berserk character.

Frog basically hard counters everything Slash does due to one very nice tech he learnt, Heal. With his current magic stat, he's healing everyone for around 150 hp per use.

After Slash gets one too many crits to the face, he goes poof, but leaves behind his Slasher for Crono to claim. More attack than the Red Katana and boosts his speed by 2.

Down the east wing, there's one new enemy in the Efreeti. Has a party wide attack that can be annoying if spammed multiple times and has a rather powerful team heal. Bring it down with magic quickly whenever they show up.

At the end of the east wing is a peculiar monster. Frog proclaims that it's Flea, then lets my rampaging berserker robot take a swing. Good thing because one hit triggers MP Buster.

After that, the real Flea shows up feminine powers and all when it's actually a he, talks a bit of trash, then starts the fight.

Flea's more focused on ailments with his physical inflicting sleep and Waltz of Chaos inflicting chaos. His two party wide status inflictors are Prism Beam (darkness) and Rainbow Storm (poison).

The real danger though? After losing enough hp, Flea gets his counter attack where he somehow coerces Crono into attacking everyone, himself included. Don't know how that one works, but the damage is 80-100 to everyone.

Only one doing any major attacking in the second half of the fight is X with Crono dropping a hit here and there. Frog's doing mostly healbot duties and dispensing the odd status cleanse item.

After the fight, there's a Soda Tab to claim and me doing a few more fights to let the girls get in on some fights.

More next time!
