Chrono Trigger Enhansa #26 - Beast's Way
Chrono Trigger: Enhansa Edition is a hack by inuksuk that rebalances things such as characters, equipment, techs, and so on to provide a harder challenge overall.

Time to proceed with the story as the Epoch is taken to 12000 BC. The Skyway up to the kingdom's sealed off, but Terra Cave just got its ladder repaired so we can now go check it out.
Inside Terra Cave, the first npc mentions that this place is Algetty, the home of the Earthbound Ones...namely, those without a speck of magical aptitude. It's also the way we'll be making it to the Mountain of Woe to rescue Melchior.
Before you proceed towards the mountain, there's a shop in the room next to that introductory npc. Lots of new equipment on sale with the best stuff being the Megablast (gun that can inflict any element in the book on any enemy type), Comet Arrow (Bow with 2x dmg against Magic enemy types), and Flash Blade (Frog weapon that's also effective against Magic enemy types, albeit at a 1.5x effective rate compared to the bow. Yes, Robo can equip this too).
When you're ready, save up at the bottom of the cave and proceed east. Grab the Soda Tab in the southeast and go north to find a couple groups of Beasts to knock out. They do get stronger every time they get hit, but the power boost isn't going to be enough to be of any concern, especially if the dingbats go after my Crono who has 165 defense and can just casually shrug off the hits.
At the end of the cave is probably the closest this game gets to a bridge troll...a Mud Imp and its two colored beast buddies. One's red, the other blue. Cue a boss fight!
Not too much to this fight, especially compared to the likes of Retinite. The beasts do like to get counter happy after taking some damage. Said counter can hit over 100 damage without buffs so it's something to be a bit wary of.
The problem? Being colored beasts, they basically painted a huge "my weakness is the opposite color" target on their faces, hence why I have Lucca & Marle here. Fire Sword & Ice Sword can do 1500+ damage when striking a weakness, enough to drop a beast in 3-4 uses.
I go after the Blue Beast first since that gives Marle time to setup Haste on everyone. Once the Blue Beast kicks it, a whole bunch of Ice Sword spam goes into the Red Beast while Lucca casts Protect aka the physical defense buff.
After all that? Even more Fire & Ice Sword spam to murder the Mud Imp. It does heal itself for a bit over 200 health after each attack taken as well as healing itself sometimes on its normal turns. All in all, easy fight.
Next time, we climb the mountain!
