Chrono Trigger: Enhansa Edition is a hack by inuksuk that rebalances things such as characters, equipment, techs, and so on to provide a harder challenge overall.

Version being played: 0.4.4

Time to go give Azala a royal beating. Lucca hasn't had much screen time in a bit so she's joining the main squad until I hit a boss.

Several new enemies in this place. Reptites seem bulky at first, but they get paralyzed if struck by one of Crono's thunder aligned techs. If he has at least 14 speed (Either the Slasher or a Speed Belt will do), he can act fast enough to pop a Lightning 2 before they can act. They typically won't break out of the paralysis quickly enough before Ayla & your third party member finish them off.

The other notable new enemy is the Volcano. Attacking it provokes a counter, but the monster's a little volatile and will hit the entire side that didn't trigger the attack. This includes itself if the enemies get struck...and said Volcano doesn't have enough hp to survive a normal strike from the likes of Lucca or Marle and its own counter.

Start of the dungeon's pretty tame. Only one way to go with a few packs of Reptites to blast on the way until you reach Kino's jail cell. Ayla wastes little time basically brute forcing the gate open from inside his cell, allowing him to make his escape along with the captured Laruba villagers. Kino does leave one parting gift at the main hall...opening up the other path so the team can move forward.

This new path leads immediately to a fork in the road. Two switches, one on each side of the fork, drop a couple enemies down a level so you don't have to fight them if you don't want. East at the fork leads to a Full Tonic (heals a target for 450 hp) while going west leads to a bit of an odd room.

This room has several tiles that, when stepped on, warp you to another portion of the room. Sometimes it'll lead to treasure, sometimes it'll just zap you to a different locale, and some even trigger a battle. The items in this area consist of an upgraded Beret called the Cera Topper as well as an extra Meso Mail.

Once you're past that, you'll find a doorway blocked by a gate outside. The swtich to open is just to the east. Left switch inside the room spits out a couple monsters for you to kill while the right switch lets you laugh and bypass those enemies.

After heading back outside and heading through the now opened gate, you'll see a familiar Nizbel doing some flexing. Heal up at the save point and switch around party members if need be, then try to run north. This iteration of Nizbel gets his lazy rear into gear and blocks the team from advancing forward.

Nizbel II doesn't deviate too much from what his younger brother was doing. Has a single target poison inflicting move, but the real gimmick stems from the fact any thunder elemental attacks will lower his defense. Conversely, the majority of non-ice based moves will increase it, forcing you to keep up a steady balance to keep the fighting running smoothly.

Also like his younger brother, Nizbel II will unleash his stored up lightning as an AoE. Decent damage, but not to the extent of Magus's ultimate move.

Crono's going to be spamming Lightning the whole fight, maybe with a physical or two tossed in there. Ayla with her newly picked up Rock Throw does amazingly well here too, but the real star is Marle with her very awesome Haste tech. Makes the affected character's turns come around MUCH quicker. If you wanted to use Marle for the endgame, this might be enough of a case to let her take the front lines for difficult battle.

More next time!
