Chrono Trigger: Part 03
0I end this play session at The End of Time, just after the future section of the game. Everything up to this point will be discussed in MinnMax's The Deepest Dive, and I have some conflicting thoughts.
Continuing Part 03's session through the future portion of the game. This is about the point in my attempted playthroughs where I give up on the game. Any time a game takes on this brown, dead environment, it ceases to be visually interesting. The same thing happens with Zelda games, going into the future and being forced to play through a dead world is incredibly boring. I do think I played a little further in one of the other playthroughs, but I don't feel I got very far. For some reason, I am reminded of playing in a prehistoric area.
The game isn't getting better. I'm not saying the game is bad. It's a good game, but something surprising will need to happen for me to change my position on it. Today, if someone who isn't nostalgically connected to Chrono Trigger were to play it, I don't believe they would walk away thinking this is the greatest RPG of all time. Anyone who believes this is the greatest RPG of all time hasn't played a game in the last 25 years... and is a psychopath.
Now that I am at the End of Time I can take a break and play something else for a while, like The Witcher 3, which is better than Chrono Trigger. Other games better than Chrono Trigger? Pokemon, literally any of them. Persona 5. Final Fantasy 6-15. And many more.
