Control: Part 08
There seems to still be a lot of game left in this game. There are still a significant number of missions that I still need to complete, thought I don't think they're mainline story missions but side missions. Either way, I think I want to do them. Right now, my focus is on getting through the story. I want to finish the story and reevaluate how much longer I want to invest.
The more I play, the more I believe this isn't a Game of the Year game. This got me thinking that I can't identify any game that I would bestow the honor to. Thinking more on the idea of Game of the Year. In a year where I think the caliber of games are just, "okay," is it necessary that a game be singled out as the best "okay" game of a bunch of "okay" games. Then does it even matter which game is picked? If not Control, then Resident Evil 2 or Death Stranding, Days Gone or Fire Emblem. They're all, I would argue equal in their "okayness."
Is Control my Game of the Year? I mean, it could be as much as any other game I played this year. As I am progressing through the game, I am taking on more of the same. The enemies are apparently different, but I have a hard time differentiating between them unless they are the levitating ones.
I'm at the point where I just want to wrap up the game. I don't want to skip any of the collectibles as I come across them because I still think they are the most interesting part of the game. Jesse Faden as a character is bland and lifeless and I don't have any emotional attachment to her, which I think is a problem. There aren't any characters that I think stand out as being excellent or necessarily memorable. It's all coming down to gameplay and it's fine, if not a bit redundant.
From where I am in the game right now, this is a solid Top 3 game I've played this year. But so are all the other games I played, and that's, I guess, what I am getting at when talking about Game of the Year. They're all Top 3 games.
