One of the things that's quite interesting about the Nintendo Switch 2 is the fact that it uses cartridges, or key cards, just like the original Nintendo Switch did. Now that the Nintendo Switch 2 has officially launched, we have picked up our system and a copy of Mario Kart World. Let's take a look and compare the cartridges and cases for the Nintendo Switch versus the Nintendo Switch 2, along with taking a look at similarities and differences between the games.

Case:
I was almost expecting a slight difference in the size of the case, similar to what Sony did from the PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation 4. Not a major difference, but a difference nonetheless. That being said, the case is exactly the same between the original Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2. The only difference is that the case for the Switch to is red compared to either clear or black on the original Nintendo Switch. Neither version includes instruction manuals, definitely a bummer, especially when you consider you're paying $80 for some physical games.

Cartridge:
I was not expecting the cartridge itself to be physically any different, but the thing I was most curious about was whether or not the length of the pins on the back of the cartridges would be any longer on the Nintendo Switch 2. If you've ever seen the two different board variants on the Super Nintendo, you know that Nintendo will occasionally make minor changes and tweaks like this. I'm glad to see that the pins are exactly the same length and size of the original Nintendo switch, meaning my Nintendo Switch cartridge and system cleaner that I designed will still be compatible with the new system.

Compatibility:
As mentioned, the original Nintendo Switch cartridges will work perfectly in a Nintendo Switch 2, at least most of them will. There are some games that still do not work and have some compatibility issues. That being said, we did play some Super Mario 3D World today on our Nintendo Switch 2, and it looked and played beautifully.

What else would you like to see us investigate on the Nintendo Switch 2? we're going to check out things like controller compatibility, accessory compatibility, and more. Share your thoughts in the comments.
