Today Is The Last Day The Switch Is Nintendo's Flagship System
It's a little weird to think about, but we're in the final 24 hours of the Nintendo Switch being Nintendo's latest system. It will no longer be the flagship, as the Nintendo Switch 2 launches in just over 24 hours. As such, I wanted to look back at some of my favorite memories and a few things I didn't care for.
One of my favorite memories is what the Switch has meant for this channel. Our video discussing whether you should buy an original Nintendo Switch six months after launch really helped put us on the map. We quickly hit almost 100,000 views, and people discovered us. It was truly cool.
On the disappointing side was the lack of third-party support from certain manufacturers and developers over the years. We never got a Madden or a Formula 1 game on the original Switch, though both are coming to the Switch 2. And WWE 2K18? That thing was a dumpster fire.
I do love that the Switch was the first video game system my youngest daughter ever got to play. We have videos on the channel of her playing with a disconnected controller, and now she plays Mario Kart with me regularly. She doesn't beat me yet, but she's getting darn good!
Another bummer is that Joy-Con Drift became a part of the gaming lexicon. Whether we're talking about the original Switch or the Switch OLED, we had to deal with it. And it doesn't look like Nintendo is directly addressing it with the Switch 2, as it's not using Hall effect sensors. While the new magnetic attachment might interfere with Hall effect sensors, it's still a bummer.
I loved that I could mod my original, launch-day Nintendo Switch. As you can see, it has a D-pad on the left. This was one of the first systems I ever modded, where I put a D-pad on the left Joy-Con, swapped out the case, and added Famicom-style buttons.
Finally, one thing I didn't like was the poor battery life and, for me personally, the handheld experience. My vision is messed up, so that's just me.
As we count down the final hours of the Switch being Nintendo's showcase system, what are some of your favorite and least favorite memories from the last seven or eight years?
