DFFOO [JP][Act 4 Chapter 4 part 1] Additional attacks with Weiss, Leo and Cor
Weiss treated me well. First multi for BT then FR appeared after 5 more. So here he is with fellow off-turn maniacs Leo and Cor. He is kinda satisfying to use, ngl.
Also not sure if it is my game or they really are changing the info tab UI again. There is a separate tab which includes the tips page. It does not even tell you the boss has accelerated FG charge and what other moves it has.
Boss:
Uncertain amount of accelerated FG charge (guess: +4%)
60%: ATK/BRV dmg down and 50% BRV gain down
FA: Guided Missile+ (guaranteed hit, AOE BRV)
- set player HP to 10% of current HP
- provide a BRV shield to the bosses
FT: 10T
- Player cannot get BRV
- use machine gun+: (ST BRV) delays target by 1T
Weakness: (Cancel FT)
FA that deals melee BRV dmg
HP Thresholds and special auras:
80/40%: Disregarding original target, use Mako Cannon+
Mako Cannon+ (ST BRV):
- removes 1 framed buff
- (guaranteed) "poison" debuff
- becomes "down" after use (cannot attack during next action)
After a set number of field turns, the boss gains an aura:
5T: Blue
10T: Yellow
20T: Red
60/20%: Aura is dispelled. If the dispelled aura is red, use "guided
misslie++" (guaranteed hit, AOE BRV) in succession.
The effects include:
- all silver framed inclusive buff dispelled
- reduce player HP to 10% of current HP
- erect BRV shield for all bosses
40%: Inflict multiple framed debuffs on all characters
General Approach:
The bosses are not overly dangerous. The most threat comes from them reducing your HP to 10% using thresholds or FA, then gets a turn and hit you with a HP attack. As long as you shave their BRV, you should be fine for the most part.
This fight is mostly about buff/debuff management. If you turn hog too much and their aura turns red, it could be really troublesome to deal with the buff removal at 60/20%. At the same time, since their mako cannon+ (BRV only) removes one buff and is guaranteed to hit, you want to rearrange your buffs, so that the ones getting cancelled are less significant or are negligible. You can do this by refreshing the important ones, such that they become buffs on the right. Buff removal starts from the left, so you can manipulate them that way to deal with the 80% threshold while you set up for the BT/summon phase to burst them down.
Note that they do accumulate their threshold moves. For example, if you BT phase push them through multiple "Mako cannon+" and "down" phase, they would do all of them in quick succession (including recovering from down immediately).
Other than that, it is only the 40% forced framed debuffs that is special. Though you can reapply enough buffs to prevent them from doing anything meaningful, if you don't have Weiss BT, which help the party dodge even guaranteed hit debuffs.
As long as you can manage the red aura/debuffs, the fight is not hard at all.
Regarding Weiss:
Preemptive Strikes and follow-ups:
He is sort of a "Cor type' character. On one hand, his EX buff makes him do a preemptive strike (3 dump target, 1 AOE) on all party members' turn (i.e. including his). On the other, he also use the same attack as follow-up on his own turn. Though he does not react to allies being attacked, which is a big departure from how Cor works.
This makes him have relatively steadily high dumps independent of any BT effects. He is relatively more focused on ST attacks, but still have some AOE capabilities.
His FR caters to melee attacks and himself, as he has an extra increase for his own off-turn attacks. It may be more beneficial to use his own BT phase with his FR or use someone else's FR instead.
BT
Weiss BT has two special effects. One is the ability to dodge debuffs that are guaranteed to hit.
The other one is more interactive. If a character deals HP dmg that is at his/her HP dmg cap, that HP attack is rewarded with "10% additional HP dmg".
The important thing to note is that unlike the "additional dmg" phrased similarly by the likes of Leo LD/Ashe's Queen's Order etc, this additional dmg is based off of the current HP dmg of the attack that fulfils the condition. In other words, it indirectly scales off of FR bonus.
For example, if you are dealing 2m as a dump at 999%, you are rewarded with a 200K extra dump. If it was Leo's LD effect, it would have been 20K only.
As far as I can tell however, Astos does not benefit from this. My suspicion is that his BT technically "removed" the cap, so Astos can never "hit the cap", even though he is strictly restricted by the 999,999 hard cap. I have tried when he reached 999,999, but nothing happened. I suspect the same for Sherlotta and Aerith's BT.
Potentially, Weiss should pair well with others with higher personal cap increase (including FR), such as Lightning/Aranea/Sephiroth/Golbez/Enna Kros (who is getting BT later) etc.
