This video comprises one successful demo and one outtake for the challenge of completing Doom 2's Map 19 'The Citadel' from a pistol start while scoring all monsters, items and secrets and sustaining no damage whatsoever, a.k.a. 'No Damage Completion'. There is commentary throughout the video, mostly recorded live as I played. The outro also includes footage from my 'successful' demo from August 2019, which was recorded on complevel 4.

This level is a particularly complex Sandy Petersen map, with even more strategic choices for No Damage play than The Courtyard. Although there are not very many hitscanners, the challenge is tricky because the many small monster traps can be a lot more difficult if tackled in a suboptimal order. The monster-blocking lines in the backpack room which I mention at the end of the video only allow a very small safe space between them, so I don't recommend dropping into that area deliberately, except as a last resort when you are on the square platform and almost surrounded by the pinkies below.

It was such a relief to succeed in not many attempts after my struggles to complete Going Down's Map 28 'Necropolis'. I really needed to prove to myself that I could finish this challenge ruthlessly.
The map looks like a real location to some extent and may have inspired castle-themed pwad levels when fan-made maps were first being produced.

Doom 2 has a steep difficulty curve for No Damage play from Map 20 onwards --- you really won't want to miss out on the strategies I employ or the drama that will ensue!
