https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom/Ports/m-o/odark The curtain call begins, but Season 16 is still revving the engine with 20 more episodes to go. So to close April, Its time I tackled this wad that was cut from the Rejected part 2. A 2007 Cacoaward winner which beat me up so badly, It reminded me of my Scythe II days prior to becoming better at Doom.

The Outer Darkness was released on August 1rst 2007 by author Varun Abhirama Krishna with Lexus Alyus composing the theme, title, and victory tunes. From the first second you begin, The Outer Darkness heavily leans towards the influence of Thy Flesh Consumed's design while "Plasma" from Duke Nukem 3D sets the mood.

I've said Scythe II is a surprise sleeper hit due to how it reflects Erik Alm's desire to test all types of players through 6 episodes of maps with increasing difficulty, And in a way, The Outer Darkness feels like Scythe II but with its last episodes difficulty hitting you full force head on. Things will go intense quickly as Varun expects a lot out of you with Hell Beneath style ambushes, and various choke points that will leave you for the vultures if you don't use ammo right or bottleneck waves of enemies, and the hair raising parts are almost like touching a transformer, A well deserved Cacoaward here.
