Dragonball Z Budokai | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
Ever since I was little I was a huge fan of Dragonball Z and it was the first time I activally was aware of watching an "anime" and that you had this style of cartoons from Japan. Before that I already had seen other anime like Samurai Pizza Cats and Pokemon, but I was not activally aware that it was made with a certain drawing style that came from Japan.
Dragonball Z meant the world to me and it was a daily routine of coming home after school and turning on Cartoon Network to watch the new episode and the adventures of Goku and his crew. I remember talking about what happened in the episodes with my friends at school the next day and overall it just is such a nostalgic show for me.
Through my life I have played plenty of Dragonball Z games and I plan to archive them on the channel, but today I want to start with one that often gets overlooked and that is the very first Budokai game.
When people talk about Budokai they often refer to the Tenkaichi series, but before that you had the original Budokai trilogy and I adored Budokai 1 and 2. Especially the 3D art style without cell shading in Budokai 1 looks so cool and iconic and I love it. The game's presentation is great with awesome music, plenty of awesome cutscenes and the most important battles with your favorite characters. I loved that you could transform into multiple forms within the same fight and it just nailed that feeling of the show in a new 3D look.
The game is relatively short and you actually don't get to fight as many iconic fights as I remembered. Battles between Trunks and Freeza or Trunks and Cell are simply only shown in a cutscene and I feel this was a bit of a missed oppertunity. Nevertheless its an awesome game for the franchise and one that I still return to every once in a while.
