Far Cry 4 [Gameplay #2] - Stage Fright
0If it hadn't been for the frequent and enthusiastic discussions of Far Cry 4 on the Giant Bomb podcast I might not have started playing the game seriously at all. I never liked Far Cry 3 quite as much as the reviewers and really don't care for the tedious hunting-related upgrade mechanics which so many people seemed to regard as the next big thing in open world design. But all the anecdotes about crazy emergent gameplay events and cool campaign missions finally made me return to FC4 this last weekend, and I had quite a bit of fun clearing out outposts, climbing bell towers and making my character suck less by unlocking weapons and perks. As an open world Kyrat lacks variety and somehow comes off as much less compelling than FC3's tropical islands, but there's clearly a lot to do here and the reward structure is good enough that it doesn't all feel like life-draining open world busywork (which, of course, is totally what it is).
