Fourth video in NERRMBO series where we round up with Wiegraf and Algus and complete the first chapter of the game.
The RNG for the first Wiegraf battle is as follows:
Ramza - Squire
Crono - Wizard
Lenneth - Knight
Mitsuru - Thief
Yeah, I suppose it could be better. The big thing here is, of course, Crono getting Wizard yet again, because a single powered-up spell can cause a lot of destruction in terms of AoE damage and is the best way to hurt Wiegraf (out of the options available anyway).
Delita's purpose is basically to try to not die (where his luck varies depending on the attempt) while attracting Wiegraf and his ladies as close to the party as possible - close enough for Crono to start firing off spells that is.
We may find ourselves actually killing some of the enemies, making it more bearable to survive Wiegraf's broken ass swordskills, or we may end up damaging Wiegraf right away - depends on how things go really.
It's useful to remember that Wiegraf doesn't even need to be reduced to critical HP in order to flee the battlefield - otherwise this might have not gone as well as it did.
Crono got to 193/200 Wizard JP needed to unlock Time Mage. Better luck next time I guess. Physical attacks are really underwhelming in this challenge because the PA stats stay very low (until stuff like Twist Headbands is sold in shops).
RNG for Fort Zeakden:
Ramza - Knight
Crono - Monk
Lenneth - Chemist
Mitsuru - Monk
Yeah, I got owned harshcore here. The Monks, while boasting enormous potential in terms of their skillsets, are stuck with inferior HP (humongous base HP is barely visible due to being stuck at lv. 1, and having no headgear hurts) since I'd rather not waste JP teaching people Knight's Equip Armor, and their PA is just really poor, especially Mitsuru being female. At least classes armed with weapons can fix their attack by wielding stronger weapons - for Monks it's PA, and our PA is never going to be very high.
Lenneth getting Chemist is really awful luck because she's the one character who doesn't yet have Phoenix Down access (while Mitsuru has both Phoenix Down AND Hi-Potion) but lacks Chemist's item throw range.
I was pretty desperate here, since I didn't train a Summoner or even Wizard Delita to have a stable powerful unit carry me through the last chapter 1 battle outside of the challenge's restrictions.
Trying to beat the Wizards before they rain down powered-up ice (and other) magic results in heavy casualties (to the point where I barely have any characters to take on the brutal enemy Knights), Knights refuse to die and take out weakened and some of the less bulky units in one single swing of the blade and Delita dies really early to make any difference.
This was a tough one, but there's one strategy that can work regardless of how well our party is capable of taking and dealing damage - redirecting Wizards' spells unto Algus. Depending on what magic they know, what their Zodiac signs and Faith numbers are, we just might take Algus down as this can't really be done the 'raw' way.
Auto-Potion NOT kicking in for Algus is also a must.
The battle ends with all 4 of my people KO'd and Delita dealing the final blow on time. I guess that's a good way to leave the party!
I even keep my 2 Brave from the Mandalia Plains battle somehow...
Here are the jobs everyone has unlocked at the end of chapter 1, just to sum up our progress...
Ramza / Lenneth / Mitsuru -
Squire/Chemist/Knight/Archer/Monk/Thief
Crono -
see above + Wizard/Priest
As you can see, the only unit to have access to magic classes is the male. So, our troubles will linger on in the second chapter.
