Done with chapter 1, we move on to another generally challenging chapter. The level difference starts to show very apparently as having like 4 PA (commonplace for females reclassing into a physical class) just doesn't cut it for dealing damage and the rest of our stats also stay low.
Dorter Trade City II RNG:
Ramza - Thief
Crono - Archer
Lenneth - Knight
Mitsuru - Thief
We're back in Dorter Trade City, where the grass is green and the archer girls are pretty!
The RNG gives us all physical classes, which is pretty bad as magic is the best way to reach those pesky enemies assaulting us from a height advantage. Archers' longbow range also drops when trying to target the enemies standing higher up.
In general, the RNG likes trolling me by giving me Thieves, whose damage potential is crap because of how weak knives are for a long time. This is why I go ahead and teach a couple of my characters Martial Arts - this lets them inflict more damage when switching to an inferior class like Thief. A little more anyway, though this will improve when equips like Twist Headband and Power Sleeve become available, and then even more with Bracer (too expensive so I'll probably just steal Orlandu's).
I actually kinda regret using the JP on Martial Arts now, because Monk has some really desirable skills and the RNG hates me and gives me Monk too rarely on this run (so far anyway). HP Restore is very helpful for the Wiegraf battle that Ramza will have to solo a good while later, for example. Still, fisting my way out of some challenging maps with RNG trolling me with bad classes was helpful at times.
This map would've been really hard if it weren't for Gaf and Agrias. Gaf happened to have Haste too, and casting that on Agrias allowed her to sweep most of the maps. The rest of my guys basically sandbagged and tried to not die (harder that it sounds).
Araguay RNG
Ramza - Thief
Crono - Priest
Lenneth - Chemist
Mitsuru - Archer
Boco can actually die here if he gets countered by a Goblin and then finished off by him. Happened once to me.
I get Thief and Archer AGAIN (not too many options available yet of course), and also Priest and Chemist. Spillover Priest JP is very handy for accessing the Wizard class, and nobody besides Crono even has Priest access yet so Chemist spillovers are useful too. Chemist JP is also a must for learning at the very least Potion and Phoenix Down - this level of healing will be underwhelming when tougher chapter 2 maps kick in, requiring more advanced healing that we lack, sadly.
The map is laughably easy, Archer's Ice Bow dealing ridiculous damage to the Goblins. Gaf and Agrias make it even more laughable.
Lenneth gets 200 Chemist JP and I teach her Phoenix Down. Pretty much a must on every single unit (as the reclassing is quite wild on this run and you never know who'll be switching to this role when others are busy being more useful).
Zirekile Falls RNG
Ramza - Knight
Crono - Priest (again)
Lenneth - Thief
Mitsuru - Thief
Thief lovin' yet again, and Crono gets Priest the second time in a row.
This is yet another map trivialised by our overpowered guests. Gaf is stripped naked and reclassed to Archer, making him easy to kill and meek offensively if he can get a turn in. Sometimes Delita will just rush in and take out Gaf on his own - probably when he has the non-break techniques (which don't work on unequipped units before the PSP version) I'm guessing.
I wasn't pleased with Crono's offence as a Priest here. 9 damage to a Knight? At least Ovelia brought some nice equips with her (Triangle Hat + Wizard Robe for a +3 bonus to magic). The Thief girls weren't doing a better job either, yet somehow they got some of the kills anyway.
Crono unlocks Oracle, with initial JP of 197/200, which is promising. Will we have Life Drain before Queklain? Mitsuru finally has enough JP for Move+1, an essential ability for everyone.
All the maps in this video are pretty easy, but there's a noticeable spike in difficulty beginning with the next maps right ahead.
