FFT - Level 1 Random Reclass MBO - Part 7: Enter Ryu
Remember that fifth character I was talking about? You can see him in the team preview in the past videos. Well, I gave him the name 'Ryu' (after the timeless dragon protagonist of my favourite jRPG series rather than the Street Fighter guy).
What to expect from Ryu? He hasn't been in any battles because there were always two guests (or one guest + 4 vacant deployment places) so he has access to just the Squire and Chemist classes, but due to the nature of spillover JP he will eventually catch up with most of the party not as late as you'd think. Not having Squire's Gained Jp UP and Move+1 is quite crippling but it's bearable and it's up to us to decide what to do with him (within the constraints of the RNG for each map of course).
Ryu is a Capricorn, just like Ramza, with 70 Brave/68 Faith.
RNG for Zigolis Swamp. From now on, I will list the number of reclass available to each character (e.g. 2 means Squire/Chemist).
7 Ramza - Knight
10 Crono - Lancer
9 Lenneth - Wizard
7 Mitsuru - Archer
2 Ryu - Chemist
This is actually a good time to be an archer because the Lightning Bow is powered up in rainy weather and ranged attacks are really effective in the swamp where you often can't get close enough to an enemy without sinking.
Mustadio fights as a Chemist (always useful for spillover purposes), and since he has Phoenix Down that's the end to some of the monsters present here.
I do take away Mustadio's gun to give it to Ryu though, since I want him to learn some decent skills ASAP.
This is the first time anybody is using a gun in my party in this run, and it's worth pointing out that guns are among the best means of inflicting damage, simply because their power has absolutely nothing to do with level or stats. It's fixed, modified by zodiac compat, so they are guaranteed to keep hurting enemies - something plenty of classes struggle with.
Guns' long range is also useful for attacking enemies who are too menacing to face head-on, too.
Goug RNG:
7 Ramza - Lancer
10 Crono - Oracle
9 Lenneth - Chemist
10 Mitsuru - Oracle
4 Ryu - Chemist
We are saying goodbye to Mustadio who is lv. 11, which is a bit too high-levelled for our run. He doesn't bring any equips, so he can be safely fired when he offers to join.
As you can see, two characters are in Chemist class for this map (which is nice, as long range shots are a great way to attack the Summoners from range) and two are Oracles. Oracles have a pretty decent physical attack in addition to having the MA to run black magic, so they're quite useful in most battles. Of course, Life Drain makes them godly against bosses.
Though Ramza doesn't have much Lancer JP to do much, even a Jump from the adjacent square is a welcome alternative to attacking without charging - 50% extra damage and 100% accuracy are desirable attributes indeed. His Jump really helped in this fight, too!
I end up killing the Summoners rather quickly on this attempt, but my own folks fall quickly too - still I have an upper hand as healthy Lancer Ramza wasn't hurt at all by that huge ass Shiva.
Mustadio is rejected, and the party proceeds closer to chapter 2's biggest challenge.
