Last time around, Cecil found himself washed up on land, alone and near the town of Mysdia. It was super awkward to say the least since Cecil took part on the siege on Mysdia in the opening scenes of the game! Everybody is so mean though... They turned Cecil into a toad, a pig and even poisoned him. The only thing Cecil can do to prove himself is to go to Mt. Ordeals to become a paladin, the antithesis of a dark knight. Tagging along with him is the white mage/black mage twin tag-team of Polom and Porom. And for good measure, let's have them run into somebody from before. Let's say... Tellah, I guess.
The plot thickens though, for Golbez sends the first of the four Elemental Lords, Scarmiglione the Earth, to slay Cecil before he can grow anymore stronger. I don't know if it's me, or is this Pixel Remaster version nerfed? I don't remember this guy being so easy. If you made sure to change everyone's Row before the second fight, you probably had an easy go of it too. Anyway, inside the strange monument, Cecil confronts his dark past. I'm not sure if you're not supposed to attack, but I just had Cecil defend until the fight ended. Now Cecil is a Level 1 Paladin and will level up very quickly becoming even more OP. And if that's not enough, well Tellah had a sudden epiphany and was able to remember all of his spells, including the legendary spell Meteor, which might kill him if he ever casts it. Neat! Now let's head back to Mysdia and see what's what.
CHAPTER 7 - RETURN TO BARON
Back at Mysdia, everyone's a little stunned that Cecil was able to pull it off and become a paladin. It turns out that he's the only one to ever do it. When you speak to the Elder, he'll notice your new sword and will read to you the inscription, detailing a myth of a Mysdian legend which seems to be referring to Cecil. The plan is the same as before: sneak into Baron and steal an airship. So the Elder allows you to use the Devils Road, which teleports you directly there. Back in the town of Baron, everyone's miserable! Cid has apparently been imprisoned and there's rumors that Cecil has died. You also hear about a monk that is staying at the inn...
There can't be TWO monks in the world, so it's obviously Yang. He's been brainwashed and is fraternizing with some Baron soldiers. A quick couple of fights will take care of the soldiers and bring Yang to his senses. It was a little annoying though, because the troops cast 'Mini' on some of my party. At least one good thing came out of this whole thing, because Yang finds the 'Baron Key' in his pocket, which will open the waterway that leads into the castle. The Baron Key will also open the locked Weapon and Armor shop, so go and buy what you need. You can definitely sell Cecil's dark knight gear, as you'll never need it again.
There's a lot of treasures in the waterway, but sadly none of them are really that useful. When you get to the castle, you can sneak back up to Cecil's room and have a free rest. When you're ready, head for the throne room where you'll face not one, but two boss fights. First, you'll run into that tool, Baigan, who will transform into a monster. You can destroy his left and right arms, but if you kill both, they'll regenerate. So pick one to kill, which will make things a bit easier for you. If you hit Baigan with some magic, he'll respond by casting Reflect on himself. So make it worth it by having Tellah cast something of the '-ga' variety and hit him hard. Eventually, he'll cast Reflect again, which will be reflected and be casted on someone of your party. At that point, bounce magic off that person until Baigan goes bye-bye.
Next, you'll fight Cagnazzo the Water Elemental Lord. If he starts to build up his water shield, hit him with some Thunder magic. Tellah is pretty clutch here. Have him hit him with 'Thundaga' for massive damage. Again, this guy seems much easier than I remember. After that first Thundaga, it won't take much to finish him off. Now Cid shows up and it looks like he's joining us, which means we have six characters. So you know what that means... someone's going to have to leave and make room. What's gonna happen?!? You'll just have to watch and see!
