So last time, our heroes hit a bit of wall. A 'Demon Wall', that is. I remember this boss being kinda tough on the original SNES version, but it was a bit of a cake walk, actually. The real twist came when we tried walking out of the sealed cave and Kain found himself suddenly possessed by Golbez again! The mofo even takes our hard-earned Dark Crystal! And... did you see all that crazy stuff afterwards with the Tower of Babil glowing? We're in the end game now. There's not much left to do. So naturally, let's take a beat and polish off a few side quests!
CHAPTER 15 - THE LAND OF SUMMONS
We have our new upgraded airship with the drill attached and everything. So there's basically no where we can't go. Overworld. Underworld. It's all at our fingertips now. But before we head top-side, there's a couple things we can do while we're still in the Underworld. Rydia has referenced this place before: The Land of the Summons. The path to it is located on a small island in the Southwestern part of the map, north of the Sealed Cave. This is one of two areas where you'll need to cast 'Float' on your entire party, every single time you change screens. There's something going on with the floor. If you don't cast Float, you'll take damage. It's a little annoying, to be honest, because I sometimes forget.
You'll want to take your time exploring this area, as there are a few hidden paths you'll need to take in order to get all the treasures. Eventually you'll arrive to an area that looks like a town. Welcome to the Land of Summons. Everyone knows Rydia here. There's also some good treasures in town, like the Yoichi Bow and Yoichi Arrows. You might be kind of wiped, particularly in the MP department. The inn is kind of pricey at 1200 Gil, but there's a save point and you can buy a tent for just 100 Gil. Up to you. We won't need that much money for the rest of the game, so it's not a big deal.
As Rydia mentions when you enter the cave in the beginning, she wants to ask King Leviathan for help. There's a building on the lower floor that is a library. What you'll want to do is walk through it to reach the 'Royal Chamber'. Here you'll have to fight Queen Asura first before fighting King Leviathan. Queen Asura is definitely the tougher of the two, as she'll counter-attack every single move. She will also occasionally heal herself, so I start things off by having Rosa cast Reflect on Asura. Then in the following turns, I cast Protect on the whole party and sometimes also Shell. From then on, she'll just have to heal as needed.
Cecil and Edge should use their physical attacks. I wanted to have Rydia cast every summon against her, but some of them were seriously weak lol. My party didn't really attack too aggressively, but since I was able to stop her from healing herself, she still died pretty quickly. With Leviathan, casting Thundaga on him did 9,999 damage (the last time at least). So it really only took about three turns to beat him. Beating them will reward you with two new summons for Rydia.
