So last time, Cecil went back to Mysdia after climbing Mt. Ordeals, but this time he had a little swagger in his step, because he was able to become a paladin. Cecil basically goes from being Mysdia's most wanted criminal, to literally the legendary hero from Mysdian myth. Tellah was no slouch either. He was able to remember all of his old spells, including the very OP spell he needs to kill Golbez, 'Meteor'. The plan from here was the same as before: sneak back into Baron and steal an airship. Only this time, we get to use the ultra-cool shortcut called 'Devil's Road', that teleports us back into the town of Baron. Palom and Porom are even down to tag along. What can go wrong, right?
Well, turns out a lot. As a rule of thumb in this game, if you ever see more than five characters together, you know something's about to go down. Remember that little wiener Baigan? The guy that basically sets the events of the game in motion by telling on you? Well, we run into that tool in the castle and not surprisingly, he's also evil, so we had to kill him. The King? It turns out he's been an imposter the whole time and is actually 'Cagnazzo' the Water Elemental Lord. He claims that Scarmiglione was a weakling, but Cagnazzo is actually easier to beat. A little Thundaga, a little Thundara and he'll be dead in two or three turns.
Cid was supposedly imprisoned, but he shows up right after we defeat Cagnazzo. There were more than five characters, so you know something's about to go down. Even though Cagnazzo was already dead, he was able to trigger a trap and cause the small room right before the throne room to shrink. Palom and Porom just finished watching season 2 of 'Dr. Stone' so it gave them the idea to petrify themselves in order to keep the room from squeezing everyone to death. I guess that's a series wrap for the mage twins... or is it? Anyway, Cid comes through and hooks it up with an airship. But no sooner do we take off, then Kain shows up to blackmail us for the last crystal. We now head to Troia for the Crystal of Earth.
CHAPTER 8 - MAGNETIC CAVERN
Troia looks pretty nice. Clean air, forests, good food. There's no good weapons or armor to buy, so you can actually skip the town altogether. If you decided to check it out, you'll hear that there's a cave nearby where metal weapons and armor are impossible to use. At the castle, you'll meet the eight clerics that govern Troia. The crystal of Earth has been stolen by a Dark Elf, who is currently inside that same cave. The Dark Elf is weak against metal weapons, so it has created a magnetic field preventing their use in the cave. If it isn't obvious at this point, the clerics will tell you that they'll lend you the crystal if you retrieve it from the Dark Elf. Oh really? Not like you have much of a choice there, clerics...
But you can't go just yet. Someone tells you that a prince from Damcyan has been badly injured and is recuperating in the castle. Who could it be? Well, it's Edward obviously. Even though we have an empty slot, he's in no condition to join us. But after hearing about the Dark Elf, he gives you a mysterious item known as the 'Twin Harp'. Head north from the castle to find a hidden Chocobo habitat. The white Chocobos will fully restore your MP! But what we want here is a black Chocobo, which can not only fly but also land in a forest. The cave we're looking for lies in an island a little to the east.
The Magnetic Cavern can be a pain, since you can't use metallic weapons or armor. There are some monsters that are undead, so I gave Cecil and Cid bows equipped with Holy Arrows. Aside from the 'Fairy Claws' for Yang, most of the treasures are simply items that aren't too interesting. There's two save points, but this place isn't that big or challenging, so I really only needed to use the second to tent-heal my party. The Dark Elf apparently built its own version of the vault rooms that they keep crystals in, which is a little amusing. Will we beat this alloy-averse, foil-fearing fairy? How will Edward help? You'll just have to watch and see!
