Last time, we finished up the two remaining side quests that were still left for us on Earth. We traded our precious Rat Tail for an even more precious metal called 'Adamantite', which we then went back underground and gave it to the master smithy Kokkol at Kokkol's Smithy. By giving him our Sword of Legend, he'll turn it into an even more powerful sword for Cecil. But it's not ready yet! So we swung by Baron and challenged the spirit of the departed King to a fight, granting Rydia the Odin Summon. Surely the sword was ready by then, right? Nope, you have to actually head for the Moon in order for Kokkol to finish, so just hop on back to Earth and then head back underground. Excalibur at last! And now we can finally explore the Moon in earnest!

CHAPTER 18 - THE CRYSTAL PALACE & CAVE OF BAHAMUT

Finally. The Moon. There's really only three area located on the Moon map: the various 'Lunar Path's that lead to the Crystal Palace, the Cave of Bahamut and 'Hummingway Home', an area populated by Hummingways which contains the only item shop on the Moon (not shown). The last one doesn't advance the story in any way, so we'll skip it for now. You'll also see a large castle, surrounded by various caves. This is the Crystal Palace, which is where we're heading first. You'll want to park the Lunar Whale as close to the cave on the Western side, otherwise you'll have to walk quite a distance.

The Lunar Path is a quick area, with no monsters that pose a real threat. By far the most annoying monsters here are the various 'flan' monsters that will appear in battles when you're on the world map. It's fairly straight-forward and I daresay it's near impossible to get lost here. Eventually you'll end up at the Crystal Palace. On the far left and right sides of the palace, you'll find healing tiles that will restore you HP & MP. Go up the middle and you'll trigger the next scene. We meet the Lunarian FuSoYa, who will recount the origins of the Lunarians and tell you about Zemus, the true antagonist of this game.

The great power residing on the Moon is actually the 'Giant of Babel', which is actually located on Earth inside the Tower of Babel. Once unleashed, the Giant will destroy everything on Earth, allowing Zemus to make a new world. FuSoYa then joins you and tells you to head back to Earth. But... before we do that... let's finish off the last side quest of the game! Now that we have a new party member and a full roster, let's head to the Cave of Bahamut!

The Cave of Bahamut is located on the East side of the Map. The normal enemies here are slightly tougher than the Lunar Path, but really not too challenging. HOWEVER... before you can reach the end of the cave, you must fight three 'Behemoth's. They're tough! Behemoth's will counterattack every offensive move, so if your characters are going to do weak physical attacks, it's actually just better to have them do nothing. Cecil and Edge should use physical attacks, while FuSoYa and Rydia should use some of their strongest magic, like 'Flare' or 'Quake'. The Behemoths are tough but not impossible and while you need to fight three in order to reach Bahamut at the end, you can leave the cave to heal and come back without having to fight them again. I was able to barely beat all three before heading back outside to use a cottage... on the moon.

After beating those three Behemoths, you'll reach the end where Bahamut, 'the God of Summons' is waiting. Just like the others, you'll have to beat it in a fight first. Bahamut starts off by initiating a countdown. If you've played other old-school turn-based JRPGs, you KNOW that nothing good ever happens at the end of a countdown. So I start off by having Rosa cast Slow on Bahamut, then more or less repeat the same strategy for Behemoth. Once I had the moves I wanted, I set it to auto-battle to fight as quickly as possible. Phew! I was able to beat it before the countdown reached zero. Now, we have all the Summons! The only thing left to do is finish up the last sections of the game!
