Final Fantasy (NES) - Four RedMAGE Casual Playthrough (Part 1)
Game: Final Fantasy
Platform: NES
Completed: February 19, 2022
Rules: Beat the game with a team of four Red Mages. Promoting to Red Wizards is allowed.
Part: 1 of 6
Each time I play this game I tend to chose a somewhat balanced team of four diverse characters. This time I thought it would be fun to have all four characters be the same class. I chose the Red Mage because it seemed like a fun balance of weaponry and magic casting. Their names were based off of Miracle Warriors, which is another fun RPG I recently played through for the Sega Master System. This was actually a really fun playthrough that had quite a bit of planning go into it beforehand. I try to speak to every character to reveal all of the plot points but I only grab the treasures that I want to pick up, which makes dungeons a lot more palatable. I do end up promoting the characters to Red Wizards when available as well. Here are some highlights:
7 minutes, 20 seconds - Here's a fun and pointless glitch that happens when you go to your menu screen while standing in a doorway you opened. It creates a sort of "phantom door" that actually does nothing. I do this from time to time throughout the playthrough for no real reason.
8 minutes, 30 seconds - Here's another pointless glitch where you can talk to this invisible person. The reason why she's invisible is because she was marked with an "indoor" flag so she was only supposed to be visible when you were indoors. Actually come to think of it, I wonder if you can see her if you enter the door to the right that requires the mystic key. I never tried that.
10 minutes - Here's another one of those fun fake door glitches.
15 minutes, 30 seconds - Close call for Hanj here.
27 minutes - Looks like you cannot get into random battles on seaport tiles.
30 minutes, 40 seconds - Screwing around in front of Garland got me into a nasty battle. I deserved it.
56 minutes, 15 seconds - What's up with these odd doors and houses without doors altogether?
58 minutes, 30 seconds - Interesting that the sea is in the background of the pirate fight.
1 hour, 2 minutes, 30 seconds - This game has a secret slide puzzle minigame that can be accessed while in the ship if you hold the A button and press the B button 55 times. It takes me forever to solve these things but you get 100 GP if you manage to do it!
1 hour, 23 minutes, 50 seconds - Ah! An unusable sample. At least they explained why you can't just take the weapons that are laying there.
1 hour, 28 minutes, 45 seconds - You can use a tent, cabin, or house while using the boat.
1 hour, 38 minutes, 55 seconds - Here lies Erdrick. This is a fun reference to the Dragon Warrior/Quest series. I think it actually says "Here lies Link" in the Famicom version. I guess Erdrick died in the year 866 at age 29? I wonder why they chose these years.
4 hours, 29 minutes - This is my first visit to the "peninsula of power" and it went quite well. The tip of this peninsula contains battles with very powerful late-game enemies that reward you with a ton of experience points and GP. If you can manage to win some battles here, you can gain levels and get a ton of money early on. The second video is actually nothing but spending some quality time there and using the money to purchase some fantastic things.
