Game: Phantasy Star II
Platform: Sega Genesis
Completed: September 14, 2021
Rules: Beat the game using Rolf only. Except he's YOYO!
Part: 7 of 7

In part seven YOYO finally enters the spaceship Noah and gets destroyed in one hit by a Desrona. After reaching the maximum level of experience he becomes evil for a bit and finally reaches the conclusion of his solo adventure. Turns out it's possible after all.

Here are some highlights:

8 minutes, 30 seconds - Apparently the Desrona has an instakill attack. Amazing.

56 minutes, 30 seconds - Poison is a real shame here since Lutz doesn't cure it. If you don't have an antidote then you either go all the way back to a town that sells it (but wait...there are no towns on Dezo that do) or just reset. Interestingly, even though the entire point of being poisoned is that you cannnot recover your health, Lutz recovers it anyways but does not remove the poison.

1 hour, 53 minutes, 50 seconds - As far as I know, the Fiend is the only regular enemy that can sometimes withstand a Megid blast. Finish him off with the FOI.

2 hours, 15 minutes - And reset...poison. How do you still get ambushed at level 49? What stat determines that? And is there no resistance to poison? Mleh.

3 hours, 10 minutes, 30 seconds - As far as I know, the Fiend is the only regular enemy that can sometimes withstand a Megid blast. This is the second time for this observation, so finish him off with the TSU.

3 hours, 30 minutes, 30 seconds - My final stats for the max level of 50 can be seen here. Pretty cool that the Data Memory lady has a special thing she says when you are at max level and cannot go up any more levels. At least she lets you know.

3 hours, 38 minutes, 30 seconds - YOYO becomes evil! YOYO turns greedy and searches the others' items! Wait...what others? Also what are the odds that the Neisword will cure your evilness? Like one in a million? It actually seems to help when it decides not to cure the evilness that reduces your agility though since Dark Force will not turn you evil again until the Neisword gets off its lazy butt and cures the evilness already afflicted on you. Since reduced agility isn't that bad, it's best to just keep that active.

3 hours, 39 minutes, 15 seconds - The start button pauses at the game over screen instead of going to the title screen. Ok. Then I loaded the wrong save file right after! Come on, YOYO!

3 hours, 42 minutes, 30 seconds - It's bad enough that Dark Force just turns you evil and basically ends your game unless the Neisword decides to randomly cure you, but check out what happens when it cured me here...Dark Force took his turn immediately and made me evil again right away. Ugh! I actually ended up beating him though. Time to trek all the way back to restock on Trimates for the final battle with Mother Brain.

4 hours, 9 minutes - Kind of some strange dialogue with Mother Brain here. I tried to pick all of the possible answers. I like how she just says "destruction" when you answer yes to her second question. Whatever. This was a longer battle than I expected actually. I love how they decide to give you 1 experience "points" and 0 meseta here right before giving a lovely "YOYOand" typo and mentioning "the others" who weren't even there. Shortly after, YOYO walks into the final room and does his best "Who are these people" Seinfeld impression. Tell the human that you don't want to know why he's saying whatever it is he's saying, and he just says something stupid and tells you anyways. Funny, and quite typical of a human. Then Lutz decides to help us out by teleporting a bunch of level 1 crap stains to die with YOYO. Except Shir. She's level 10 so good for her. Speaking of Shir, what is blowing up in the background when it shows her portrait? Same with "YAZO".

4 hours, 20 minutes, 50 seconds - I didn't notice this during my first playthrough...there is something that very quickly flies away from Mota when the words "THE END" are on the screen. What was that? An escape pod maybe, once the weather systems stop functioning? I think there might be an answer in Phantasy Star 4 if I remember correctly. Also, notice how if you let the intro sequence play again, there is now water all over the world as if all of the dams have been opened. Not sure if that was on purpose but it's pretty cool.

YOYO rocks in YOYO's room.
