Phantasy Star II (Genesis) - Rolf Only (Part 6)
Game: Phantasy Star II
Platform: Sega Genesis
Completed: September 14, 2021
Rules: Beat the game using Rolf only. Except he's YOYO!
Part: 6 of 7
In part six YOYO gets to explore the planet Dezo, meet an Esper from the past with a confusing name, locate the eight items of Nei, and get really irritated when he learns he has to have all items of Nei in his inventory and not in storage before being given the final weapon.
Here are some highlights:
2 minutes, 10 seconds - You can get into a battle on top of a chute. Cool.
3 minutes, 45 seconds - You can actually walk through these vertical barriers in Skure, but only the ones on the left side. It's odd. You can even open chests through them.
12 minutes - There's an interesting trick you can do with Ryuka here in Skure. Basically Ryuka will take you to the last Data Memory building you saved at. But what if the last one you saved at was on another planet, or if you used the Visiphone on another planet? If that's the case then Ryuka will take you to the starting location of whatever planet you happen to be on when you cast the spell. For Mota it's right in front of the Central Tower in Paseo, and on Dezo it's at the beginning of Skure. What if the last time you saved was with the Visiphone on the current planet though? If that's the case then Ryuka will take you to the Data Memory building in Paseo if you cast it on Mota, or to the Data Memory building in Aukba if you're on Dezo, regardless if you've actually ever visited that town. Because of this, you can save using the Visiphone in Skure and then cast Ryuka to go right to Aukba without having to walk there. It doesn't save a tremendous amount of time, but it's fun to do and is still pretty significant.
29 minutes - This is stupid. There is no town on Dezo that sells antidotes. If you need one then you'll have to go all the way back to Mota.
39 minutes, 15 seconds - You can get into a battle on top of a staircase. Cool.
1 hour, 9 minutes, 10 seconds - For whatever reason you cannot store the prism in the baggage area, even though other key items can be stored. That's annoying because it will forever take up a slot in my inventory instead of a trimate or something.
1 hour, 40 minutes - The Ohx enemy has a move that can take all of your TP. Just like that. Really annoying. The walk back was awful after that, and I just got rid of my telepipe in the last trip to the dungeon. Come on!
2 hours, 3 minutes, 40 seconds - The Mystcapes can reduce your attack power as many times as they want. Look at how low it gets by the time this battle is over. That's interesting since things like Deban or the Snow Crown don't stack.
2 hours, 16 minutes, 30 seconds - The Ohx! That's so irritating!
2 hours, 43 minutes - I got into a battle on a pitfall here. I guess we're all fighting while hovering in the air. Cool.
3 hours, 20 seconds - Here's another demonstration on how you can just walk through/over some of these barricades.
3 hours, 36 minutes, 30 seconds - Lutz requires you to have collected all eight items of Nei before he will give you the ninth one which is the Neisword. Turns out that you actually have to have all of those items in your inventory for him to do that, meaning that they will take up eight slots in addition to an empty ninth slot you'll need in order to be able to receive the Neisword. That sucks. This crap stain doesn't even fill you up. Time to go all the way back to Paseo and basically leave just about everything behind so that I can fit all that junk in my inventory. Leaving the Storm Gear and especially the Snow Crown behind is kind of yuck, and it's stupid that the prism cannot be stored in the Baggage Room. I'll come back once I get the Neisword and make my inventory better for the final dungeon.
3 hours, 54 minutes - This is a consistent glitch where the music messes up when you speak with Lutz after obtaining all eight items of Nei. Even the text gets all busted up. That's fun. By the way, the fact that the Visiphone is so well hidden and has no clues about obtaining it is pretty dumb. If you never picked it up (which you most likely wouldn't if you didn't have the hint book) then the closest place to Noah that you could save would be the town of Aukba. You would have to go all the way through the Crevice again every time. That's absurd. They should have made the Visiphone easier to obtain or at least had a place to save in Esper Mansion. It kind of reminds me of that game Little Ninja Brothers for the NES and how it didn't have a place to save in the final town or final area so if you died or just wanted to save your level gains then you'd have to go all the way back through a long cave to a previous town.
4 hours, 30 seconds - Just reached a million meseta!
