Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster - Ch. 6 - Library of the Ancients
Last time, we journeyed to Karnak, where the plot thickens! It's not just the amplifying machines that are causing the Crystals to shatter, there is some other sinister element involved! We met this game's version of Cid, who looks like what would result from FF4 Cid and Tellah having a baby. Cid invented the machines that amplify the Crystals' power, but after attempting to shut them off, he was thrown in jail. It didn't last long, as the Fire Crystal soon started cracking and they realized Cid was onto to something. The amplifying machine was shut off, but the Crystal's output continued to rise.
The only solution was that a nearby 'fire-powered' ship was still drawing power from the Crystal. Cid sends us to the engine room to investigate, where we find Queen Karnak, possessed and muttering something about a revival. Long story short, Karnak Castle explodes and we got three new jobs. What happens next?
CHAPTER 6 - LIBRARY OF THE ANCIENTS
Cid is down in the dumps. He blames himself for what happened and empirically, it would seem he's correct. But we KNOW there's another reason the Crystals are shattering, one after another. Cid's not buying it and drowns his sorrows at the bar. Oh well, now that the castle exploded, the way to the Library of the Ancients is no longer blocked. Cid's grandson... Mid is there studying. Maybe he can get Cid to snap out of it. Let's try out our new jobs, while we're at it. 'Ninja' in particular, is badass. They're quick as hell and can attack twice. Beastmaster seems to be like a Pokémon trainer, who can catch monster when they're weak. Geomancer is... also a thing. They seem all have decent attack, so let's give them a try.
We head east from where Karnak Castle was and then south. Be careful as you pass the desert, as there's an incredibly strong monster there. The library will be surrounded by a ring of forest. When you enter, the library is in chaos as monsters have invaded the lower stacks and Mid is no where to be found. If you head to the roof, you'll be given a quick explanation about how the books sometimes get possessed, followed by a sample fight. You'll fight monsters one at a time, which is sweet. These guys might be the strongest normal monsters we've faced so far, but fighting this way gives us an advantage.
Eventually, you'll reach a spot that won't let you progress. A voice will call out and keep moving the bookcase that's in your way. If you found Ifrit before this, you'll be able to proceed, but if not, backtrack a bit and find him. The guy on the roof said Ifrit used to burn possessed books for them, so whoever's moving the bookcase won't mess with him. Ifrit's not tough and certainly easier than Liquid Flame, that we fought last time. There's a couple of dead ends in this library, but it's still a relatively short area. I had to backtrack, as I had missed the treasure containing the Ninja Suit. As ou approach the final room where Mid is, you'll fight the boss, Byblos.
Byblos can be a little tough, as he can attack a couple times in a row. I wanted to use Ifrit, but Lenna, my on-again off-again Summoner, was occupied most of the fight healing. So I had my Mystic Knight Bartz use Fira spellblade to enchant his sword. Beastmaster Galuf got back to his Black Mage roots and casted Fira a couple times himself and eventually Byblos was Fahrenheit 451-ed to smithereens. Mid will show you a shortcut to the entrance and then he'll head back to Karnak and knock some sense into Cid.
Mid found something in a book that would make the fire-powered ship move without Fire. Conveniently, it's never actually mentioned what he discovered, but sure enough, the fire-powered ship is back online. Galuf finally remembers his past and the true antagonist, Exdeath, is at last revealed. Cid and Mid head back to the library, while it's anchors away for our heroes, as they head to find the Earth Crystal.
