Last time, we finally were able to restore one of the Crystals to 'grace' as they say. We gave the Star Ruby to the Titan, whom after munching on it, helped us out by...getting out of the way. Good guy, super helpful. We met the Sage, who gave us the Earth Rod, giving us access to the lower floors of the Cavern of Earth. It was there that we met the first Fiend of Chaos, the Lich! The Lich is truly scary-looking and, up to this point, is the toughest boss we've faced yet. But even still, after just a few rounds, the Lich was licked. Or should I say, 'Liched'. That's one down, three to go!

CHAPTER 6 - MT. GULG

This is the part of the game that gets a little annoying. Literally no one in Melmond gives us any clues as to where to go next. I even tried going ALL the way back to Cornelia and talking to the Dancing Girl by the fountain. She didn't have anything to say. Maybe someone, in some town will give you a hint but I'm guessing they really just wanted you to get in your ship and explore. So, we'll head to the eastern landmass and see what's what. You can either hug the southern coast and go east, or you can sail west from the southern tip of the Devil's Tail. Going west is a bit faster in my opinion. Eventually you'll spot a port to park your ship and then head west to find the town of Crescent Lake.

Not much is happening in Crescent Lake. There's literally two people outside in the town. Gear up and buy magic/items, because the next area is LONG. In the top right corner of the town, you can head to forest area where there's a circle of elders. You don't have to talk to all twelve, but they provide a little back story and tell you to return when all Crystals are restored. The guy on the bottom right will give you a canoe, which you can use to cross inland rivers. There's some rivers a little northeast from Crescent Lake. The monsters you'll find the river are a bit tougher than the ones nearby on land and A LOT tougher than the ones found at sea. Follow the river and you'll eventually end up at Mt. Gulg, where the next Crystal and Fiend of Chaos awaits.

Mt. Gulg has five floors and some of them are pretty huge. Some are fairly brief though. There's parts with hot lava that you can walk on, but it inflicts damage to your HP. The trade-off here is that you can't get into random battles while on the lava. So, I lava-walk where I can. As usual, there's plenty of treasures with monsters waiting inside. It's annoying, because a lot of them are just potions, or weapons/armor that are not good enough to equip anymore. There are a few good ones like the Ice Brand, Flame Shield and Flame Mail. The Ice Brand will do some good damage on some of the monsters here and make your life easier. I didn't bother with any room that was empty. Thank god for the map function that allows you to see inside!

On the fifth floor, or B5, you'll eventually find the room with the Crystal and Marilith, the Fiend of Fire. Unfortunately, Marilith is NOT weak against Ice spells and even the Ice Brand is kinda meh against her. She doesn't have tons of HP though, so just keep pummeling her with swords and magic. Sadly, my Black Mage died and I was just one move away from reviving him, when I accidentally killed the boss. So now my Black Mage is unfortunately one level below the rest of the team. It kills my OCD to see three characters that all need the same EXP to level up and then one oddball that's different. Oh well! Just like last time, you can warp out of the dungeon on the plate in the back of the room.
