Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster - Ch. 4 - Tower of Walse
Last time, we got our very own dragon! It can't fly over mountains, but it can definitely cross water. This opens up new areas to us! We fought Magissa and her husband Forza on North Mountain. And I even learned my first Blue Magic spell 'Aero' from Magissa herself. It was a quick chapter and I should've included a quick side-trip, which I'll now tag onto this one...
CHAPTER 4 - TOWER OF WALSE
Before we resume advancing the plot, let's take a quick trip back to Tycoon Castle and let everyone know that Lenna is ok. Tycoon is not doing so well: monsters are attacking, the king is still missing, etc. But Lenna can't permanently return until our heroes' quest is finished. So they ask us to at least stay the night. You can bet there's going to be a nighttime scene and you're right. Lenna has guessed that Faris is actually her long lost sister, Sarina. But Faris isn't quite ready to come to terms. If you talk to everyone, you'll come across someone who tells you that Sarina/Faris was lost at sea one day.
Explore everything and you'll be treated to some good weapons and items. When you're ready, head to Walse, which is South of Carwen. In the town, you'll learn about how the Water Crystal keeps the town protected and also provides clean water. Get some gear and spells, but depending on your current job, you might not have much to choose from. A girl near the outside of town will also tell you about the 'Garula', a mammoth-like, which is typically very docile. Head to the Castle when ready.
The whole reason we came here was to warn the King about the Wind Crystal shattering. The reason it shattered is assumed to be caused by the machine that amplifies the Crystal's power. The King has heard the rumors, but is against turning off the amplifier. Suddenly, another meteorite falls and there are reports that the Tower of Walse has been invaded by monsters. The tower contains the Water Crystal, so the king rushes off to ensure it's ok (much like King Tycoon did). So we'll now head to the Tower of Walse. If you fly north, you should be able to see the meteorite. Head a little west from there.
The Tower of Walse is a fairly quick dungeon, with a couple treasures but nothing too crazy. As you get closer and closer to the Crystal Room, you'll find more soldiers and then King Walse himself. It seems a Garula is heading towards the Crystal and is no longer acting docile. Sure enough, in the Crystal Room is a Garula and it's the boss for this area.
Garula can be a tough boss. Between its strength and its move, Rush, which allows it to attack more than once, it'll keep you on your toes. Having a character or two die is probably inevitable. I had it set to auto-battle having Bartz (Warrior) and Faris (Thief) just attack, while Galuf (White Mage) casts Cure on everyone and Lenna (Black Mage) casts Blizzard on Garula. I did about 200 damage per turn and Garula has about 1200 HP. So you just gotta hang in there for about six turns. It's unfortunate if one of your characters misses out on EXP, but it's best to move on.
Afterwards, the Water Crystal shatters anyway. But at the very least, it means we're getting new job options! The guy who was fighting Garula when you arrived is dying, but he seems to recognize 'Lord Galuf' and tells him to protect the Fire Crystal. The plot thickens for him. Grab the crystal shards. There's one that's blocked and inaccessible, so don't freak out if you can't reach it. When you grab the other five, the tower will start to sink and you'll be transported out.
