Now that I've finished Final Fantasy, I'm back on FFV! Please also check out my walkthrough for FF1. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Anyway, last time on FFV, we started our new adventure! We met our heroes: Bartz, Lenna, Galuf and Faris; and after joining together, they ventured to the Wind Shrine to look for Lenna's father, King Tycoon. The Wind Crystal shatters! And from the shards we are given new jobs that come with new abilities. After a detailed explanation on the job system, it was time to take a break. What's gonna happen?!?

CHAPTER 2 - THE SHIP GRAVEYARD

So, I really needed a moment to weigh my options on the career choices for my heroes. The prevailing wisdom is that you'd want to get the Blue Mage ability - Learning, as quickly as possible. That way someone can learn Blue Magic even while they're not a Blue Mage (as long as you have Learning equipped as an ability). But I decided to start off with my FF line-up: Warrior, Thief, White Mage, Black Mage. I'd also like for everyone to learn the Monk ability - Bare Handed, which gives you the Monk's strength even when you're not a Monk. But, no need to worry about that now.

You'll notice that in Chapter 1, I didn't go to the town of Tule. You can definitely go there before going to the Wind Shrine, but I'll head there now. If you follow Faris to the bar and upstairs to the room, you'll see a funny scene that reveals Faris is actually a woman. Which is a little weird, because I already thought she was a woman. I didn't get man vibes from her at all. Definitely upgrade your gear and buy all the magic. You can also visit the 'Greenhorn Club', which is the traditional tutorial place that explains the basics of the game. There's a treasure-monster that will give you Leather Shoes and a Leather Cap, so it's worth the two second fight.

The main thing to do here is to visit the house that's all the way to the North, which is Zok's house. Zok created the Torna Canal, which we need to pass to get to Walse and we need the key to get in. At first, he'll pretend he doesn't have it, but in the following scene with Bartz, he'll give him the key. You're now ready to leave town. As you head for the entrance, Faris will say goodbye to her pirate crew. Head east to the narrow passage and you'll enter the Torna Canal. At the end of the screen, you'll encounter 'Karlabos', the monster that has made the canal its home.

Karlabos has a special move called 'Tail Screw', which will leave you with HP in the single digits. It can also paralyze, which was annoying because it paralyzed my Black Mage. As you can probably guess, Karlabos is weak against Thunder, so definitely slap'em with Thunder if your mage is not paralyzed. Afterwards, Faris' dragon Syldra will be sucked into the whirlpool and your ship will be left drifting rudderless. You'll end up in the Ship Graveyard. This area is pretty straight-forward, but it may be hard to discern where exactly to go. Luckily, the baddies here aren't too tough.

Eventually, you'll end up in an area where sirens will tempt our heroes by showing them someone they miss terribly. Bartz sees his mother. Lenna sees her father, King Tycoon (further hinting that Faris and Lenna are related, Faris also sees King Tycoon). Galuf sees a young girl who calls him 'Grandpa', but since he has amnesia, he does not fall into a trance. He gives each hero a quick slap to bring them to their senses and you'll fight the area boss: Siren.

The only thing challenging about this boss fight, is that Siren will change forms which also changes her weakness. Siren is more vulnerable to physical attacks in her first form. She'll also change into a 'undead' form, which will make her weak to healing magic or potions. After the fight, you'll wash up on shore and thus concludes chapter two...
