Last time we went from fire to ice and explored the Cavern of Ice. I've read some commentary online that says some consider that dungeon the hardest in the game. But I'm guessing this Pixel Remaster version is much kinder, as I didn't have much trouble getting through. It was all worth it though, because we got the Levistone we found led to use getting an airship! This is big upgrade from the canoe we got earlier, lol. Now we can go practically anywhere!

CHAPTER 8 - CITADEL OF TRIALS

Are you ready for a promotion? That's what we're going to do in this chapter. We'll start off by heading North (or South really) from Crescent Lake until we reach the northern part of the northern most continent (looks like a Chocobo). In between some unpassable mountains, we'll find the town of Gaia. You'll want to make sure and pick up some Ruby Armlets and Protect Rings for everyone. This will give you a serious defense boost for your mages and thief, if you have one. You can pick up some magic now, but you'll notice that it won't let you purchase level 8 spells and whatnot. For now...

Leave Gaia and head southwest. You'll see a castle somewhere in the mix, but you'll notice you can't land right next to it. You'll have to find a spot you can actually land on and walk from there. It's not so bad. The castle is the Citadel of Trials. The sage near the entrance will let you take the challenge since you have the Marsh Crown (another connection that wasn't explained anywhere). This area is not so tough. There's only two quick floors. The first floor might be a little tricky because you have to use warp points to get to the exit. There's a correct way to progress through the room. If you don't do it correctly, it will send you back to an earlier part and you'll have to do it again.

Unlike other dungeons, most of these treasures won't require you to fight monsters. There's a couple of those monsters that you'll see outside of battle. Y'know the ones, the weird lizard-y guy in a robe. When you get to the end of the third floor, one will be seated on the throne, which you'll need to use to exit. It's two 'Dragon Zombies', but I wouldn't call them a boss. Make sure you grab the treasure on the left before exiting. It's a Rat Tail, which you'll need for the next part.

When you leave here, head southwest a bit and you'll see a series of islands with those sinkhole thingies. This is the Dragon's Cave and each island has a different part of it. There's some treasures and some friendly dragons you can talk to. But our goal is to talk to King Bahamut. The Rat Tail we got from the Citadel of Trials is apparently a sign of great courage, so Bahamut will bestow upon us new job titles. Score!

Warrior becomes Knight
Monk becomes Master
Thief becomes Ninja
Black Mage becomes Black Wizard
White Mage becomes White Wizard
Red Mage becomes... oh I think you get it
