Last time, we covered a lot of ground, it was kinda crazy. We canoed up the waterfall and got the Warp Cube. We took the Rosetta Stone that we found in the Sunken Shrine and gave it to Unne, the researcher and learned the ancient language of Lufenian. We went to Lufenia and were able to understand everybody! We got the Chime, which allowed us to enter and climb the Mirage Tower where we were finally teleported to the Flying Fortress! We grabbed the Adamantite and fought Tiamat, the Fiend of Wind and the final Fiend of Chaos that we needed to beat. The Crystals have officially been restored and now all signs point to a final battle at the same place we started, the Chaos Shrine.

CHAPTER 11 - RETURN TO THE CHAOS SHRINE

This is it! There's only two quick things I need to do before heading to the Chaos Shrine. First, we need to take the Adamantite to Mt. Duergar, so the Smith can make the Excalibur, the second strongest weapon in the game. This next part is optional, but I'm going to pop over to Cornelia and just stock up on items and whatnot. I mean, what am I saving all this money for if it's not going to matter after this? Once you're stocked up, head to the ol' Chaos Shrine and go back to the room where you fought Garland.

The Crystals will react to the Black Crystal in the center of the room and send you two thousand years into the past. Now the Chaos Shrine is much bigger than the one we're familiar with. The good news is that there's not a lot of treasures here, so if you happen to see empty rooms on the map function, just leave them be and just head for the stairs. The bad news is that you'll have to re-fight the Four Fiends of Chaos again and they're noticeably tougher than before. They're tough enough for me to have to turn-off the auto-battle at least. I used a different strategy, whereby I cast Haste and Temper on my Ninja and Warrior to buff their attacks.

Somewhere along the way, you'll reach the floor where you have to re-fight Tiamat. There's a room off to the side with a treasure chest. You'll definitely want to trek there because it contains the Masamune! Not only is this the strongest weapon in the game, but it can be equipped to anyone! It might be tempting to equip it to the White Mage, but give it to one of your fighters. The White Mage will be occupied with healing in the final battle, so there's no point in giving it to her. The final floor will have a large room in the center. Heal-up, ether up, make your final preparations for the final battle!

So who's the final boss? Well, it turns out, it's Garland! After you killed him in the Chaos Shrine in the beginning, the Four Fiends of Chaos sent him back in time. His plan is to now send the Four Fiends into the future, creating a time loop that can never be broken. Unless you defeat him here once and for all... Garland now goes by Chaos and... HE. IS. TOUGH. Apparently, each time Final Fantasy has been re-made or ported, they increase Chaos' HP. So this might be the toughest version of Chaos ever!

I practiced this fight a couple times before I was ready to record. Unfortunately, I had some bad luck here and things went way differently than the practice runs. I did the usual Haste/Temper on my fighters and let them do their thing. Everything was going cool, but then Chaos started doing physical attacks on my party that would wipe out a character's HP in one hit. I tried to revive everyone, but then all of a sudden, I was down to my Black Wizard. I decided to give it all I had and started casting Flare. Luckily, I was able to beat him! The time loop has been prevented and the kingdom is saved!
