A video showing my attempt to get into the highest tier of Arena in FEH for the 7th time.

As I've posted before, I'm a casual player in FEH. Collecting new units is pleasant and justifies keeping the app on my phone, with orbs generally being easy to get without trying very hard. I've never paid any money for anything in the game (some Resplendent alts make it tempting, but the other deals cost an arm and a leg and have caused people to waste thousands on the game), which may limit what I can achieve, but I'm fine with not really trying to achieve anything.

When I was starting out, I eventually ended up in Tier 21 easily enough with a team of F2P dragons and Aversa, occasionally introducing a new unit that scores a tiny bit better. Eventually, it was clear that the more shrewd players have an advantage over me thanks to the access to newer units with higher BST that renders Dual skills I relied on useless. Somebody like Sothe, who I introduced into my team as a support unit, could only rally his allies and do nothing else - initiating with him always ended with him being one-shot and/or doubled by the sort of units whale arena teams in the upper tiers tend to pack.

As I gathered feathers and grails however, I was able to successfully build a team that can actually win without relying wholly on the bonus unit being good. Echidna got DC and Spurn, Fallen Ashnard was foddered DC, and Norne received the most expensive inheritance of all three, with all of her weapons and skills being exclusive fodder. She was also summoner-blessed since, while Echidna and Ashnard are okay with the stats they have due to mostly facing foes based on weapon triangle affinity, Norne is neutral against most threats and therefore wants to always be at a statistical advantage. It'll take a while to get her those dragonflowers to truly maximise her stats.

What made it possible to break into Tier 21 for the second time in months was Legendary Female Corrin being the bonus legendary this week and it being wind month. I had wind blessings on 2/3 of my arena core, Norne still light-blessed since she's being used in both AR and Arena. LFCorrin is also really good at killing foes, not only getting bonuses from kills with ease but also helping out with foes others are afraid to engage with her defensive kit. For instance, Young Caeda was a massive threat in the run you see here, having Vantage AND effective damage against all three of my units here.

My team in general seems to have better luck killing things when countering on enemy phase and not being adjacent to anybody else (Echidna has Deck Swabber and Norne has Spd/Res Solo). I guess all three of the core are super tanks, and LFCorrin is also a defensive unit.

The previous time I broke Tier 21 was with Legendary Dimitri as the bonus hero. He was also incredible at combat; it had been months since I was last in the highest tier, which makes sense as I don't pay for anything and generally don't try very hard in the game.

I do believe FEH is extremely valuable as far as FE games go. While in the main series, weapon effects don't go much farther than "Defence +5 when equipped", in Heroes you have massive weapon descriptions like: "Accelerates Special trigger (cooldown count-1). Neutralizes "effective against armored" bonuses. If unit's HP ≥ 25% and foe initiates combat, neutralizes unit's penalties and unit makes a guaranteed follow-up attack. If foe initiates combat or if foe's HP = 100% at start of combat, inflicts Atk/Def-6 on foe during combat and foe cannot make a follow-up attack." That introduces a lot of depth into a strategy game with tiny maps where units only move 2 tiles much of the time.
