Fix Discord Not Opening on PC – Stuck on Starting Solution
In this video I show you how to fix Discord not opening on PC. In some instances you may find Discord is stuck on starting or stuck on a grey screen. Fortunately, the solutions for these issues are typically the same. One option is to delete the Discord application files. This will allow you to remove any files that are corrupt or aren’t working properly and are preventing Discord from opening.
To remove the Discord files you will first need to close the Discord application. You can do this using the task manager if you can’t close Discord using other means. The task manager can be opened by right-clicking on the task bar, or by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc. With the task manager open you will need to find the Discord process. If you are having issues with Discord starting on Windows 11 then you can use the search bar to find Discord. To close Discord you will need to right-click on it and choose to End Task.
After closing Discord you will then need to open the Run window and type in %appdata% before pressing Ok or Enter on your keyboard. This will open a folder on your computer where application files are often kept. Here you will need to delete the Discord folder by right-clicking on it and choosing to delete. Again, if you’re having the issue on Windows 11 then you will need to select the Bin icon. If you are having the Discord not opening or stuck on starting issue with the public test build version of Discord then you will need to delete the discordptb folder instead.
Once you have deleted the folder you can then open Discord. Typically, Discord will take a little longer then normal to load as the previously deleted folder with all of its files will be recreated. Additionally, you may need to sign back into Discord. However, in some cases you will be signed back in automatically.
If you are still getting the Discord stuck on starting or not opening issue then you can try reinstalling Discord. To uninstall Discord you can right-click on the Start menu then select Installed Apps. If you are on Windows 10 then it may be called Apps & Features. Here you can use the search box to find Discord, then click the three dots and choose to uninstall. After uninstalling you will need to go to the Discord website and download the Discord installer file. Double-clicking on the Discord setup file will reinstall Discord on your PC.
Another option to fix the Discord stuck on starting or grey screen issue is to use a different version of Discord. On the Discord download page there is an option to get the public test build of Discord. This version is very similar to the standard version of Discord, however, is typically used to try out new features. You can get the public test build version of Discord from the download page under the “Feeling Experimental?” heading. Alternatively, you can also use the browser version of Discord by clicking the Log In or Open Discord button on the website.
