I decided to put up 100% runs of each of the main levels and put them on YouTube that have tips in the description. I am doing this mini series as a guide for people who will run Gex 3 100% in the future. I don’t intend to have tips for everything but just the things that you should know. This guide will feature the 100% routes for the rest of the game that is in the final video. Here is my run for reference for this category.

Here are links that explains most tricks that I used in a 100% run.

This first level is Holiday Broadcasting. It is a hard level to optimize due to hitting the 11 penguins and whacking the 5 snowboarding elves fast. Doing the 100 fly coin remote first can be helpful because a lot of optimization is in that remote and this level is the first level in a 100% run.

To kill the snowboarding elves fast, first you hit them and then you wait until they are out of their animation of being hit then you hit them again. You can tailwhip the presents back at evil Santa at the very edge.

General Tips: This guide is mainly for the PS version of the game. Most tips can still be used for the N64 version of the game. Turn the voices off before you run. You can let a fly buzz around you for an extra hit point. Tailwhip to collect collectibles in most situations because that has a wider range of collecting. Tailbounces and Karate Kicks are higher/longer if you do those moves while running. When you enter a zone that consists of a loading screen, holding start can make you have the ability of moving Gex instantly. Exit through the menu when doing secret and bonus TVs except for the buccaneer bonus TVs and the first Secret TV. You can save time if you have the camera look at a fewer amount of items on the screen for less lag. Some objects in all levels are based on the camera. You destroying an enemy or collecting a certain collectible WITH a fire or ice fly depends if the camera is looking at that direction or not. To gain momentum while falling, all you have to do is to jump off while Gex is still moving. Memorize fly coin numbers through out the run.

Levels with critters that have fly coins in them are hard to optimize. Ideally when trying to whack two or more critters in a group in the game, you should ignore getting any fly coins until you hit the last critter in the group that drops the last fly coin. Exceptions are when you find consistent ways of hitting the last critter (that also has to be the critter in the group that is near the area you would go after hitting all of the critters) mostly every time. You can also try and get critters with any icy/fire fly powerup.

The infamous fly coin glitch is when Gex collects a fly coin and it doesn’t register or a fly coin doesn’t spawn from an enemy. In some cases, they can even fall off the map. When this glitch happens when Gex is collecting a fly coin, that usually happens when Gex or the fly coin are nearly off screen. So to avoid most of these cases of this, simply don’t have the camera too close to Gex when playing in certain situations. The most popular fly coin glitch is called “The Fish Glitch” and it’s in Gangster TV. Here's what to do: every time you go in the water, max out your camera. If you have the camera maxed out already, max it out again as soon as you are underwater. Then try to hit the fishes at the bottom. The trick is to have the camera as far as possible from Gex when hitting fishes.

When a fly coin doesn’t spawn from an enemy then that means the camera is too far away from the fly coin to spawn. An example would again be in Gangster TV where you go and shoot the mods inside the 2nd story building (that a TV is at) with the machine gun and if you get off as a mod is in his death animation, sometimes that results in the fly coin not spawning. When doing my route in a 100% run at the end of the fly coin mission on that level, be sure to not have the last small mod in his death animation when the remote TV cutscene begins to play.

TV Cancels with the camel or donkey may make collectibles disappear. What you would want to do is to kill Gex and then the collectible will respawn.

For N64 runners, you can use the glitch in this link. Read the description too for an explanation.

You can't get 2 extra remotes in the same hub world with this glitch so you have to do this glitch each in the 4 different hubs. Skipping 4 100 coin fly remotes for any level is recommended such as skipping the long Anime Channel remote.

Thanks for reading all of this and watching my run.

This level run's time is about 6:49.50 and it was achieved on November 21th, 2014
Done on a PS2 using FDS using a PS1 disk.
Timing starts when I can control Gex inside the level and ends at the first frame of the first blackout when I enter the last TV.
