For low to moderate height high jumps, the classic tactics still work perfectly well. But with really big jumps like the mirror jump, the new IJ is demonstrably faster.

New IJ lets you do the mirror skip in 19 seconds, while hammer IJ took around 30+ seconds.

New IJ doesn't really need to be reset with AQ, which is a big plus. Perhaps the interrupted air melee attacks and the faster pace of the jump keep Kratos' air momentum in a fine shape.

Mixing up Hammer IJ and AQ IJ seems difficult. Much like how it's not possible to continue Hammer IJ directly after a jump, some lag factor or similar may mess up the timing and the inner workings of AQ jump is you try to do it from melee attacks. At least so far I've found it more convenient to start AQ IJ always from double jump.

My current inputs when doing the jump are: in Pause-menu, O and triangle. Then after menu has faded out, square and Pause at nearly the same time and quickly after L2 for Quake. I use exaggerated hand motion with some force to ensure that I don't press all three inputs at same time and to keep up rhythm easier. Then just repeat ad nauseam.

I did the jump twice in a row to demonstrate that it's not THAT difficult to pull off. I'm getting more and more consistent doing it.
