Max Payne 3 - glitched Pause-menu effects (Chapter 5)
The journey of documenting this game's glitchiness continues. And as you may guess from the 15-minute video length, I'm not exactly dry on glitch footage at the moment.
0:00 - Chapter 5-3 intro stretch. Enemies will discover Max before the stretched out intro ends, causing them to glitch up. Max is also frozen in place for good.
0:44 - Chapter 5-4 intro stretch. Enemies start shooting at Max before the stretched out intro officially ends, but Max doesn't mind because he is invulnerable during this time. Eventually things return to normal.
1:22 - Chapter 5-7 intro stretch. Camera stays focused on the thugs until they notice Max. After that, they try to take out their guns, albeit glitchily, with their hands remaining empty and the props of the area (like the box the thugs are carrying) becoming stuck on their bodies. One of the thugs even aims at Max with his industrial saw! After the stretched intro ends, the Checkpoint finally begins proper with enemies still half-alerted to Max. Waiting for a while or trying to shoot them begins the shootout like normal.
2:42 - Chapter 5-7 discovery cutscene stretch, first variation. The camera will get stuck on the thugs noticing Max. They start shooting at him, and after 15 or more seconds the game will finally continue with the rope above Max breaking.
3:25 - Chapter 5-7 discovery cutscene stretch, second variation. The camera gets stuck showing the ropes as they break. Then bullet time starts, but Max is somewhere out of camera and can't shoot at the time.
3:59 - Chapter 5-13 intro reset. The slow motion of the intro lasts longer than usual, so you can't defend yourself against the first molotov. It shouldn't do enough damage to destroy Max's boat, but the boat explodes anyway for some reason.
4:23 - Chapter 5-13 intro stretch. The camera stays focused to nowhere in particular for a fairly long time while the time is slowed down. Absolutely nothing seems to be going on for a while. But after a minute or two you start hearing some new dialogue from Max again - apparently the boat managed to drift to the next cutscene even though you can't see anything and are technically still stuck in the intro cutscene. After the intro cutscene is over, the game suddenly cuts to pre-Checkpoint 14 cutscene where a grenade is thrown at Max and Passos. Then their boat explodes for no reason. Then Checkpoint 14 begins like normal.
5:10 - With a longer intro stretch (?) you can get past the pre-Checkpoint 14 cutscene with the camera still glitched up. After exploding, the camera remains stuck and you can play a part of Checkpoint 14 without seeing a thing.
5:40 - Chapter 5-13 retry during fail. This just glitches up the colors momentarily, nothing too special.
5:54 - Chapter 5-14 mid scene reset. Camera stays stuck at nowhere in particular for quite a long time. Afterwards you finally see the rest of the cutscene of the grenade being thrown, but with no one throwing it. Then Max and Passos instantly explode.
6:34 - Chapter 5-14 retry during fail. This also glitches up colors, and the effect lasts for a while after retry! It looks really cool in my opinion.
7:04 - Chapter 5-15 intro stretch. Camera stays focused on the side of the river as enemies and Max drive somewhere off camera. After a while, the camera returns to Max, but no enemies are around any longer. Max and Passos are still in the middle of the river, and it appears they have not moved much during the waiting period. Regardless, the next cutscene begins almost instantly afterwards.
8:06 - Chapter 5-15 retry during fail. Another stylish color glitch that lasts for a while after retry.
8:57 - Chapter 5-16 intro stretch. Camera stays unnecessarily close to the boat for a long time. Seems the boat can't take any damage during this time, so it's just relaxed driving around for Max and Passos for a minute or two. But since this Checkpoint doesn't resolve by itself - you are forced to shoot the enemies to continue - eventually the intro ends like normal and gameplay resumes.
10:00 - Chapter 5-16 retry during fail. Another stylish color glitch that lasts for a while after retry.
11:23 - Chapter 5-17 retry oddity. If you retry right before Max and Passos drive off the ramp, the camera moves around in a hectic way after retry.
11:42 - Chapter 5-18 intro stretch. You'll see the physics effects of the building collapsing in far greater detail than usual since the camera is locked to that direction. After a while, we return to Max whose boat has went on its way and is either submerged or right next to the enemy boat as the set piece begins - depending on how strong an intro stretch you did.
13:00 - In some cases it's still possible to win the set piece even though Max's boat is displaced.
13:27 - Chapter 5-18 retry during fail. A short-lived color glitch.
13:40 - bonus clip. Some more footage of the crazy color filters from Chapter 5-14.
