After you reach inside the house, you got to use one of two pre-scripted hiding places to continue the level progress. Using the bath room is the faster option because entering the closet locks your character into a fairly long "cutscene" during which you can't leave the closet. However, there is a small exploit you can use to get around that.

After retrying from last Checkpoint and running to the closet, there's a predictable if small time window after entering the closet that you can still leave it. If you're lucky, you hit the trigger for the "cutscene" event to start, but you're outside the closet and can do whatever.

The most fun use for this is that you can see the cop's scripted actions from a new angle. Note that I keep moving at almost all times because the "player hassling mechanism" is in full effect here, and the cop will notice you via extrasensory means if you stop behind him for long enough.

I'm not even sure why the game prevents you from leaving the closet at this time. If the cop notices you during his route, he just attacks you like usual. I didn't notice extra glitches starting if I interrupted the cop during his routine here.

Sadly, despite being a pretty fun tactic, it still remains a faster speedrun tactic to simply hide in the bath room.
