About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to play Minecraft with your friends on other platforms. Minecraft is on pretty much every console and mobile device out there, but it can be confusing when it comes time to play Minecraft with your friends. That’s why we created this video in order for you to be able to play Minecraft cross-platform with your friends.
The first thing you need to know about playing Minecraft cross-platform is the difference between Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition. Minecraft Java Edition sadly cannot cross-play with any other platforms. Minecraft Java Edition players can only play Minecraft with other Java Edition players.
Minecraft Bedrock Edition is where cross-platform play is really unlocked though. Any platform that has Minecraft Bedrock Edition can cross-play with other Minecraft Bedrock Edition players. That means someone playing on an Xbox One can play with someone playing on a Playstation 5. Those players could also be joined by someone playing on iOS or Android. Literally, any platform that has Minecraft Bedrock Edition, which is pretty much all of them, can cross-play without much of a hassle.
How can you cross-play with Minecraft Bedrock Edition? Well, you first need to link your Xbox/Microsoft account to Minecraft Bedrock on the platform you are playing on. This can be done from the Minecraft main menu on Bedrock Edition it does change slightly though depending on the platform you are playing on.
Once you have your Microsoft account linked to your Minecraft Bedrock game, you will need to add the friend you want to play Minecraft cross-platform with. You will do this using their Xbox Live username. Some versions of Minecraft Bedrock Edition allow you to add Xbox accounts in game. However, with others you will need to add them with the Xbox App or on the Xbox website.
After adding your friend to your Xbox account, they will be able to see your joinable games in their ‘play’ tab. You can also manually send them an invite from the pause menu once you are playing in your Bedrock Edition world. It’s that easy to play Minecraft with your friends cross-platform as long as you are on Bedrock Edition.
If you do have issues with cross-play on Minecraft Bedrock, it could be due to you playing on different versions, so make sure everyone is as up-to-date as possible on their device before playing. This can cut out a lot of the headache some players have when trying to play with friends on Bedrock Edition.
