About this video: This video shows you how to change your screen size in Minecraft. Why would you want to change your screen size in Minecraft? Well, by changing your screen size in Minecraft, you can do everything from increase performance to make Minecraft look better to even allowing you to see more in-game. There are tons of different benefits from updating your resolution in Minecraft, so let’s go ahead and rump right on into it!
One of the things that confuses players about changing your screen resolution in Minecraft is that you don’t actually do it in Minecraft. Instead, you change the size of Minecraft from the Minecraft Launcher.
To change your screen resolution in the Minecraft Launcher, open up the launcher, and before you click play, look at the menu bar towards the top. There, you will see an ‘Installations’ button. Click that, and you will be taken to where you can see all of the different versions of Minecraft you have installed. Sadly, you will need to change the resolution of all of these versions.
However, once you are on the installation tab, hover over the installation you want to change the resolution on. Then, click the three dots that appear, and click on ‘Edit’. When you do this, you will be taken to the settings for that version. At the bottom of these settings, you will see ‘Resolution’. Here is where you can change the resolution of Minecraft. You can put in any number that you want, if you click the monitor icon, you can see popular options like 1080P and 1440P. Select the option that works best for your computer. Keep in mind though that the higher the resolution, the lower your FPS could be.
Once you have your Minecraft screen size selected, click on the green ‘save’ button in the bottom left. You may need to repeat this step of other installations if you play with multiple installations often. Changing your resolution is the same for all versions of Minecraft.
At this point, go back to the ‘Play’ tab, and click the green Play button. Minecraft will then open up in the resolution that you selected.
What if you want to play Minecraft fullscreen though? Well, do play Minecraft full screen, you actually need to open up Minecraft. It doesn’t matter what resolution you have selected when you open Minecraft. Once you are on the Minecraft main menu, click on ‘options’. Then, click ‘video settings’. In the settings on the left hand side of the screen, you will see see ‘Fullscreen’. Change this to ‘On’, and Minecraft will go fullscreen. It will actually open up fullscreen every time you launch it until you change the fullscreen setting to ‘off’ again.
On the same settings page as the fullscreen option, you will see ‘Fullscreen Resolution’ at the top. By default, this will be set to what your screen size is. However, you can change it if you want. Doing this will allow you to run Minecraft fullscreen while still protecting performance.
