About this video: This video is our guide on how to pre-generate your chunks for your Minecraft server! Why do you need to pre-generate your world on a Minecraft server? Well, the answer to that is pretty simple - lag. Chunk lag is super common on servers, but it is also super easy to fix! All you have to do to stop chunk lag on a Minecraft server is pre-generate your server’s chunks before it is joinable by players. Then, you will get no chunk lag once players start joining. Luckily, that is exactly what we show you how to do in this video. Thus, without any more delay, here is how to pre-generate your world on a Minecraft server!
To pre-generate chunks on your Minecraft server, you will be using a plugin. That plugin is called Fast Chunk Pre-Generator. Literally, all it does is generate the chunks inside your world border or within the radius you define. That’s it. I would suggest leaving all of the settings in the config the same to start off on them to make sure things are working. Then, ramp them up once you know they are. We have the best Minecraft chunk generation settings below!
You can find the official Fast Chunk Pre-Generator link in the description above! Go there, download it, and install FCP on your server just like any other plugin. Once it is installed, you can move in-game and start generating your Minecraft server chunks.
Do this, use the /fcp fillvanilla [chunkbuffer] command. It should start filling the chunks in the vanilla world border automatically! You can pause the generation with the /fcp pause command and resume it with the /fcp resume. To stop all generation, something you will need to do to change the generation settings, you can do /fcp cancel. Lastly, to get information about generation tasks that are running use the /fcp pending command. That’s all you need to know to generate your chunks on a Minecraft server. However, by default, it may take a VERY long time to generate the chunks.
To solve how long this will take, we recommend these settings that come straight from the developer. They can be found in the Fast Chunk Pregenerator config file.
MaxMillisPerTick: 28.5
WaitTicksBetween: 0
AsyncChunkLoadingEnabled: true
HighAsyncPriority: true
UnsafeAsyncCalls: false
MaxParallelAsyncCalls: 64
SecondsPerNotification: 8
The above settings should increase generation time and make the process faster. With that though, it will kill CPU and RAM usage, so we suggest not doing this with players online. Once it is finished though, you will have a TON of lag reduced in regards to chunk and teleportation lag!
Congratulations! You now know how to generate chunks on your Minecraft server to reduce lag.
