How to RESET Lock Screen Password on Motorola Phone (Best Method)
If you have forgotten the lock screen password, PIN, or pattern for your Motorola phone, the only reliable and effective method to regain access is to perform a factory data reset. Due to modern security protocols, there is no way to bypass the lock screen without erasing all data on the device.
This process will wipe all your personal data, including photos, videos, contacts, and apps, from the phone's internal storage. However, if you have a Google Account linked to the phone and you remember the password, you will be able to restore data that was backed up to your account.
The Best Method: Factory Reset via Recovery Mode
This method is universal for most Motorola phones and does not require you to know your screen password.
What you'll need:
Your Motorola phone with at least 25% battery life.
The login credentials (email and password) for the Google Account that was previously synced with the phone. This is a security feature known as "Factory Reset Protection" (FRP) and is required to complete the setup after the reset.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Power off your phone: The most common way to do this is to press and hold the Power button for 10-15 seconds until the device shuts down. On some models, you may need to press and hold both the Power and Volume Down buttons to access a power menu and select "Power off."
Enter Recovery Mode: With the phone completely off, press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons simultaneously. Hold them until the device turns on and a new screen with a boot menu appears.
Navigate to Recovery Mode: Use the Volume Down button to scroll through the menu options until you see "Recovery Mode." Press the Power button to select it.
Bypass "No Command" screen: After a moment, you may see an image of a broken Android robot with a "No Command" message. To get past this, press and hold the Power button, and while still holding it, press the Volume Up button once and then release both buttons. A new menu will appear.
Perform the Factory Reset:
Use the Volume Down button to scroll to "Wipe data/factory reset."
Press the Power button to select it.
On the next screen, use the Volume Down button to select "Factory data reset" and press the Power button to confirm.
Reboot the Phone: The phone will begin the reset process. Once it is complete, you will see a "Data wipe complete" message. The screen will then default to the option "Reboot system now." Press the Power button to select it.
