How to Turn Off the Voice Assistant on PS5 (Disable Talking Voice)
If your PS5 is reading everything out loud and you want to turn off the voice assistant, you’re likely dealing with the Screen Reader feature, which is designed for accessibility but can be toggled off easily. Here’s how to do it:
From the PS5 home screen, go to Settings—it’s the gear icon in the top-right corner. Scroll down and select Accessibility, then find Screen Reader in the list. You’ll see an option labeled Enable Screen Reader with a toggle next to it. Switch that toggle off, and the voice should stop immediately. The setting will turn gray to confirm it’s disabled.
If you’re in a hurry and just want to pause the voice without digging into menus, press the PS button and the triangle button on your controller at the same time. This pauses the Screen Reader until you press the combo again, but it won’t turn it off permanently—use the Settings method for that.
This feature might’ve turned on accidentally during setup if you waited too long on a screen, as the PS5 auto-enables it after a delay for new users. Once it’s off, it’ll stay that way unless you or someone else flips it back on. If you’re still hearing voices after this, double-check your game or app settings—some have their own narration options—but for the system-wide assistant, this is the fix.
