Welcome to the Retro Gamer 365 where we are gaming every day! I am Professor Stu and I am your host for the day on this playthrough. Character for the day is Ryu, pronounced generally Rye-you by Americans but Ree-you by Japanese, I don't care how you pronounce it as long as you know he isn't the blond guy.

Ryu is one of the two original characters from Street Fighter, the other being Ken. Their moves were identical in the original Street Fighter and indeed for most of the iterations of Street Fighter II. Here in Hyper Street Fighter II Ryu is more fully developed with his emphasis being upon the Hadouken as opposed to Ken's Shoryuken. Ryu gains the ability to use a red Hadouken in addition to his original blue one and this red version causes more damage and also starts the enemy on fire if it connects.

The input for Ryu's Hadouken is a quarter circle forward (QCF) which means down, down diagonally forward, and then forward with any punch button with the punch strength determining the speed with which the fireball flies. Ryu also has the Shoryuken which is actually known as the "dragon punch input" which is forward, down, and then down forward diagonally with a punch. Once again the strength of the punch determines the power and distance of the move. Ryu's final special move is the Tatsumaki Senpukyakku which roughly translates as "hurricane kick." The input for it is a quarter circle back (QCB) which is down, down diagonally back, and then back followed by any kick button which determines the length of travel. Ryu's EX or Hyper move for this game is the Shinku Hadouken which is a multiple fireball attack and it is performed by a double QCF followed by any punch as all three punches launch the same attack.

Ryu is probably the easiest character to play as in the entire game as most matches can be won by "cheesing" with his Hadouken which basically means to spam that attack repeatedly as the chip damage it causes will eventually kill any character, even if they are blocking. All three of the Shotokahn characters (Ryu, Ken, and Akuma) are programmed so that the AI will do that to the player if they get the chance. This is illustrated beautifully in the fight with Akuma at the end, and yes, I did lose to Akuma in this recording sadly.

However, beat Bison and the story will commence but there will be no credits unless Akuma is defeated! Not that most people really care one bit about the credits anyways. Regardless, with that Ryu's playthrough is done and so is this video! Smash those like and subscribe buttons and keep on gaming every day!
