Let's Play Crash Bandicoot 2 - Part 1: Crash The Game
Well, I finally decided on a game (obviously)! It's another platformer, but this time, it's on a 32-bit system...and 3D rather than 2D. While I still prefer 2D, if only because problems related to the camera and depth perception tend to occur far less often in 2D games, I wish there were more good 3D platformers out there...we have, what, a few Crash Bandicoot games, maybe Banjo-Kazooie or something else I've never played, and Spyro (if you can even call that a platformer rather than a buttload of fetch quests and minigames with a little bit of simple platforming thrown in)? I don't know. In any case, we are in control of Crash Bandicoot, a mutant orange marsupial who must gather crystals for his former archnemesis, Dr. Neo Cortex. Little does he realize what the true reason behind his quest is... This is the second game in the series (and in my opinion, the best), so I explained as much of the plot of the first game as I could remember in my commentary.
In any case, we start off with a cutscene that essentially continues from where the first game ended: Cortex is falling down, down, down, through the sky, and with the kind of physics that only work in video games, he crashes unharmed through a cave, sees a crystal, which gives him the idea for his plan and initiates the plot of the game. Meanwhile, Crash and his sister Coco are relaxing on their tropical island paradise, when Crash is suddenly teleported to an ancient building with portals leading to various places around the island and...well, just watch it, 'kay? To make a long story short, we have an intro cutscene, the intro stage, my backstory explanation, and a playthrough of the first level. Level 1 is called Turtle Woods, and it seems to take place in a rainy jungle. Here, we get our first crystal, our first two gems (because there's more stuff to collect, don't you know?), and our first demonstration of what our hero can do.
Maybe only one level is completed, but hey, it's a start. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step...and this journey should be a fun one.
