Let's Play Donkey Kong Country 2 - Part 15: Castle Cryogenics
Now we're in the part of the castle that is actually a castle! The middle two stages of K. Rool's Keep, 6-3 and 6-4, both have Layer 3 foreground effects that rise and both are much less annoying than you'd expect them to be given their descriptions. Castle Crush is the first actually castle-themed stage (as you would expect, that theme doesn't show up in any other area), and it has a platform that steadily, continuously rises and can crush you if you get caught between it and the ceiling. (It isn't instant death as you'd expect it to be in a game like this, though.) This stage has two animal buddies, both of which are required to get the bonuses and DK coin in this stage. It's actually a pretty decent level, and not really too hard either, as long as you're paying attention. Clapper's Cavern is the next stage, another ice-themed one. This ice cavern has water as well, but you don't want to swim in it this time...Snapjaw, the nasty invincible enemy from Slime Climb, returns in this stage, just as aggressive as before. Fortunately, you never have to deal with him, because this stage brought back another gameplay element from an earlier stage: Clapper the seal. Instead of cooling down hot water like he did in Lava Lagoon, he turns the water—or at least the top layer—to ice, allowing you to walk on it and be safe from Snapjaw. Of course, there is a time limit on the ice, and as soon as it runs out, the ice changes back to water, and if you were standing on it at the time, you'll fall in and probably get a good bite in the butt. I actually find this stage easier and more fun than Slime Climb, though. You never have to worry about the water rising here, except in one or two short, easy sections. There's also a short underwater section with Enguarde...and without Snapjaw. This stage isn't that long, and as such, usually goes by pretty quickly.
