Let's Play Crash Bandicoot 2 - Part 3: Race to the Roo
Let's finish off the first warp room, shall we? First up is level 5: Crash Dash, which has awesome music and a new gimmick. This is the first "chase" level; in this one, you run toward the screen while being chased by a giant snowball. Of course, that in itself would be all too easy, so there are other obstacles to trip you up as well. This stage doesn't have any actual enemies, really, just pits, electric fences, Nitro boxes, little...um...explode-y things, and speed boosters. I guess it's good for getting you used to the chase levels.
The first boss of the game is Ripper Roo, who first appeared in the original Crash Bandicoot. He jumps around spawning TNT and Nitro boxes, and you have to find a safe spot away from the explosions and then attack him afterward. It's really a pretty easy boss; about the only problem here is if you get stuck in an area too far from the one safe spot. Beating him obviously gives you access to the second warp room, which means we are (approximately) one-fifth of the way through the game. One warp room, 5 crystals, 5 levels, and 6 gems down, with 4 warp rooms, 20 crystals, 22 levels, and...36 gems, I think? (Okay, yeah, there are two semi-secret levels, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.)
