Evil by its very nature is not tangible. It is not a quantifiable substance form but instead is performed by people. It also does not appear in the same way every time it is performed. Its forms are infinite and ever-shifting and more importantly, it can appear in the guise of precisely what it is not. Evil can be loud, obvious and brash, trumpeting itself with a chorus of suffering and misery for all to see. It can just as easily however be veiled behind a curtain of comfort and familiarity, trying to appeal to irrational fears with lies and deceit. Some who commit evil truly believe they are doing good, while others are fully aware of what they do and still do it anyway. Some believe certain evils are necessary for survival, others that good cannot exist without the presence of evil as a counter. Evil can be perceived as ultimately corrupting and irredeemable or something that can be absolved, but there’s one thing that I’ve always held to be true.

Evil can never truly die. In one form or another, evil will remain with us for all eternity. How we react to it determines who we are as a person and how we learn from evils past shapes our future.

Chaz and company are soon to face not just a tyrant returned from death, but a personification of evil itself that seeks to fulfil a cruel and selfish desire, no matter the cost to others. Evil does not often appear so obviously and in that regard, the group have it lucky. But is the one that they are soon to face the evil behind the troubles of the Algo system or is there a force even more terrifying steering others to do its bidding? Is the one they’re soon to face in full control or is he little more than a tool of evil itself, powerless to stop what it’s doing? Whatever the answer is, the eclipse torch must be recovered and for that, an evil long dead and forgotten must be faced again, stopped again.

Let’s hope that Chaz’s hope is strong enough to defeat the evil of Lashiec and that his quest does not end here.
