After a longer-than-intended break, I've finally started my Let's Play videos again! This time, I'm playing another SNES classic, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. (Also known as simply "Yoshi's Island".) It's the next Mario game after Super Mario World, although it is a prequel to all the other games in the series. (At least, as far as the NES and SNES are concerned...I don't know if later installments came earlier chronologically.) I personally think everyone who still has a SNES should own this game. Unlike Donkey Kong Country 3, though, this game does use an enhancement chip: the GSU-2, one of the two Super FX chips.

The basic premise of the game, in any case, is that a stork is delivering a pair of twins to somebody, Kamek kidnaps one of them, and the other falls onto Yoshi's Island, where the Yoshis devise a system to reunite the two. Since your player character is Yoshi, he has a lot of abilities that Mario didn't, such as making enemies into eggs and hovering.

At the start of the game is an intro stage, Welcome To Yoshi's Island, which teaches you a few basic mechanics of the game. Completing it brings you to the main overworld and 1-1: Make Eggs, Throw Eggs. 1-1 is short and sweet, a grassy, flowery stage with some basic enemies, no checkpoints, and a secret area. After that is 1-2: Watch Out Below!...which didn't get its name by accident. It introduces the...Incoming Chomps? I can't remember exactly what they're called. They're big black enemies that come down and crash through the ground, creating bottomless pits. There aren't all that many of them here, though; after a short while comes the first checkpoint and then a room where Yoshi transforms into a helicopter and flies to the other side of a large gap. The final room, the one that comes after that, has some more basic enemies and another Incoming Chomp, then the goal.

It's actually been a while since I've played this game...this should be fun (except for a few nightmare stages...). I suppose it's a nice break from some of the harder games I've been playing on my own time.
