The second fortress stage...hoo boy...Mega Man X6 is not known for being "chill", but this may be the most infamous stage in the game! Gate's Laboratory Stage 2 is the longest and most difficult stage in the game, certainly. Spikes everywhere, nasty enemies from previous stages, tricky platforming, not one but TWO bosses...with all that, it's no wonder I had to split this one into two separate videos.

The first half of this stage can be intimidating right from the start. You're faced with walls of death spikes, and the Nightmares (the enemies) make a reappearance...as do more things from previous stages, most notably the totem poles from the Central Museum. Sometimes, you even have to fight these annoying things on moving platforms that can easily smash you right into the ceiling...and, of course, there are spikes, lots and LOTS of spikes. (You can take a few shortcuts with the Double Barrier and vertical air-dash, though...) There is also a particularly notorious section involving three moving platforms and spike-covered surfaces; you have to air-dash just right to make it through without hitting the spikes.

After all that, the boss of the first half of the stage (yes, the first half) is High Max. Same guy that I fought back in Infinity Mijinion's secondary area, and he's just as annoying as ever. The battle isn't exactly difficult (if anything, his attack pattern is a bit easier this time), but it is so...flipping...tedious...ugh... At least if you make it that far, you won't have to run the spike gauntlet again, since you essentially have infinite lives. Oh, High Max...how I hate you...
