Moving right along, we come to the next two stages in the game. 1-3 (The Cave of Chomp Rock) is the first underground stage, with some nice ambient music, crystalline graphics, and a couple new enemy types. Then comes 1-4: Burt the Bashful's Fort, the first fortress in the game. In Yoshi's Island, every world has 8 stages (9 with the Extras), every x-4 stage is a fortress, and every x-8 stage is a castle. Both fortresses and castles have bosses to fight at the end, usually minor enemies that Kamek uses his magic on to make them grow enormous. In this case, it's Burt the Bashful...but there is a fortress to get through first! Burt's fortress consists of rooms made of what seems to be wooden bricks, with plenty of falling boards, lava, and various enemies to trip you up along the way. Burt himself starts out as a small enemy that appears in several locations in the fortress, a little bouncing guy with blue pants. After Kamek's spell, he expands in both directions to become an enemy that still wears blue pants and still bounces...but takes up almost the entire screen. He's a simple enough boss, though; he jumps around the room, and all you need to do is hit him 6 times with an egg to make his pants fall down. Yes, you read that correctly. Each hit makes his pants drop a bit, and when they get all the way down, he becomes so embarrassed that he turns bright red, zooms around the room shrinking, and bursts into light. Such is the pattern of most bosses in Yoshi's Island, although most of them don't need to undergo such humiliation.

Sorry about the black lines on the top and bottom of the screen...that will be fixed in part 3, at least.
